Taking on the task of directing the work of supporting the improvement of foreign language skills and international integration for children and adolescents, the Youth Union and Young Pioneer Councils at all levels in the province have created many models and solutions to create a lively English learning playground, helping children have a place to develop their foreign language skills, while improving the international integration capacity of children and adolescents.
Bright spots from the grassroots
From that effort, many good learning models have been maintained effectively over the years. Two typical models have received high appreciation from the Provincial Youth Union and support from local schools and students. These are the English Storytelling model of the Duong Minh Chau District Youth Union and the Happy English Learning model of the Tan Bien District Youth Union; attracting a large number of students and team members to participate enthusiastically, thereby promoting the English learning movement among local youth.
According to Mr. Tran Thach Cuong - Secretary of Duong Minh Chau District Youth Union, the model of "English Storytelling" has been deployed by the District Youth Union Council since the 2023-2024 school year. Up to now, the model has been deployed for 26 teams in the district with nearly 20,000 team members and students participating, carried out at least twice a month. In addition, the District Youth Union Council directed 100% of the teams to integrate it into the Monday meeting at the beginning of the week, or diversify the organization.
The model is implemented in the form of dramatizing children's stories in English. Students use fairy tales, lessons, stories collected from books, newspapers, textbooks, historical figures... and are translated bilingually into English - Vietnamese scripts by subject teachers.
“Through stories about family, friends, environmental protection, history, young heroes... the model helps students practice listening and speaking skills in English comprehensively. English storytelling practice sessions have aroused students' desire to learn English; helping them confidently exchange, communicate, and stand in front of a crowd” – Mr. Cuong said.
In Tan Bien district, from the 2024-2025 school year, the model "Learning English for Fun" has been jointly deployed by the District Youth Union Council and the District Departmentof Education and Training to 100% of Youth Union bases in the area. With the form of organizing extracurricular activities integrating a variety of language games, storytelling, songs, communication activities... up to now, the whole district has organized more than 40 sessions with the participation of more than 15,000 team members and students.
The highlight of the model is the “Young Children Channel - Happy Learning English” section on the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Electronic Information Portal of Tan Bien District. This is a place to introduce quality English books and share effective learning applications, helping students improve their foreign language skills and access modern learning methods.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc - Secretary of Tan Bien District Youth Union said that the model was implemented with the aim of creating an English learning environment for students, helping them have more opportunities to communicate in English. From there, they will develop reflexes in communication. In addition, improving English proficiency for rural students not only contributes to narrowing educational inequality, but also opens up many opportunities for learning, employment and self-development, thereby promoting the overall progress of the local community.
Building a class of young people who are confident in international integration
Implementing the program "Supporting the improvement of foreign language skills and international integration for children and adolescents" of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, period 2022-2030, in the past time, the Provincial Youth Union - Provincial Pioneer Council has made many efforts in creating a foreign language learning environment, a playground for exchange and experience for children and adolescents. Thereby, contributing to fostering and improving the quality of human resources, meeting the requirements of the country's industrialization, modernization and international integration.
According to Tay Ninh Provincial Youth Union, in 2024, the whole province will have more than 24,000 young people participating in activities to support improving foreign language skills and international integration.
In addition to typical programs and activities such as the playgrounds "Vietnamese Children - Reaching out to the world", "Vietnamese Youth - Global Citizens", "Reaching high dreams" organized by the Central Council of the Young Pioneers, the Provincial Youth Union diversifies activities to improve foreign language skills such as organizing English competitions, seminars, international exchange forums; maintaining and developing local academic playgrounds such as the "English Talent" Contest, "English Olympiad for students"... at the same time, increasing the application of digital transformation, social networks, online platforms so that children and teenagers have the opportunity to practice and use foreign languages regularly.
With the efforts of over 3 years, the Provincial Youth Union - Youth Union Council at all levels in the province has contributed to creating a foreign language playground that attracts a large number of young people to participate. The quality of contestants has been improved day by day with each year of organization.
According to experts, through competitions organized by the Provincial Youth Union, many students in the province have been able to confidently communicate, be sensitive to behavioral situations in English, and be able to speak eloquently, express their thoughts and aspirations in English.
In particular, many students have been inspired to have a passion for learning foreign languages, nurturing concepts and knowledge about international integration; helping them realize the importance and role of foreign languages in promoting international integration capacity for young people.
Phan Nguyen Phuc Han - a 4A student at Da Hang Primary School (Go Dau District), the first prize winner of Group A (primary school) of the 2025 English Olympic Contest for students, shared that after participating in the contest twice, he has learned many lessons.
I find that English competitions organized by the Provincial Youth Union, District Youth Union or school are all interesting playgrounds where I can freely speak English, express my thoughts and aspirations to friends, teachers and provincial leaders. Thanks to studying English well, I have been able to research many documents, books and English movies that I love.
Realizing more opportunities for academic development after studying English well, Nguyen Ngoc An Hoa - a student of class 9A5, Thi Tran Secondary School (Chau Thanh district) said that he has participated in the English Olympic competition for students for 4 years, since he was a 6th grader, and he finds this competition very useful.
Through the competitions, I have many new experiences, practicing my confidence in standing in front of a crowd. Moreover, I have been able to cultivate many skills and knowledge, have enough confidence to participate in national and international competitions, and access new learning opportunities such as studying abroad and student exchanges. I hope that in the future, Tay Ninh will have more diverse foreign language exchange playgrounds, and have more learning environments that are more experiential than theoretical.
