This is an activity to expand and improve the effectiveness of the program "Vietnam Navy as a support for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea", and to strengthen the blood relationship between Navy officers and soldiers and fishermen.
The main content of the activity is that Navy units and agencies, businesses, and units coordinate to support the care and nurturing of orphaned and homeless children of fishermen, creating conditions for them to develop comprehensively. Since 2022, Navy units have sponsored 161 children of fishermen in especially difficult circumstances.
Being sponsored by Brigade 955, Duy has more spiritual support in life.
One of the godsons of Brigade 955 is Tran Ngoc Duy. Duy's father is a fisherman who exploits seafood offshore. In 2022, when Duy was in 3rd grade, his father had an accident at sea and could not return. Duy's mother then left home and went abroad. Duy lives with his elderly grandparents in Dong Hai ward, Khanh Hoa province. Duy's grandparents do not have a stable income, and the family's economy is facing many difficulties.
Knowing Duy's situation, Brigade 955 coordinated with local authorities to sponsor Duy from August 2023. The Brigade Commander mobilized resources to support him with 1 million VND per month. Officers and soldiers of the unit also gave him a bicycle, books, school supplies, clothes, shoes, etc. to help him go to school.
Since being sponsored by Brigade 955, Duy has not only received financial support for his studies and medical care, but also has had spiritual support, always encouraged and cared for like a family member. Talking about his studies, Tran Ngoc Duy shared: "This year I continue to be an excellent student. I will try to study well so that when I grow up I can earn money to help my grandparents."
Ho Dan's family, residing in Ca Na commune, Khanh Hoa province, is one of the poor households in the locality. Dan's father died on a sea trip and his mother has no stable job, making the family's already difficult economic situation even more difficult. After finishing 7th grade, Dan decided to drop out of school to work to earn money to help his mother.
Carrying out the activity "Navy sponsors fishermen's children", Brigade 955 supported Dan with bicycles, books, essential living items, education costs, medical care and 1 million VND/month. From here, he has a spiritual support to always be encouraged and supported in difficult times.
Officers and commanders of Brigade 955 regularly visit and encourage Ho Dan and his family to help them stabilize their lives and strive to study and improve.
For a long time, officers and soldiers of Brigade 955 have become companions of fishermen going out to sea. Taking care of two children of fishermen in especially difficult circumstances, officers and soldiers of the Brigade not only take care of their health, provide financial and medical support but also care for and encourage them to strive to overcome difficulties, rise up, and become independent in life.
Colonel Do Van Son, Political Commissar of Brigade 955, said: "We have decided to sponsor the children from 2023 until they turn 18, hoping that they will have the conditions to study and grow up."
