MacRumors page commented that the reason for increasing the iPhone 16 Pro screen size is to make space for the new camera design.

As for the buttons, Apple is said to have considered a number of different layouts during development but ultimately settled on a layout where all the buttons are on the same side, except for the new Capture button on the right edge of the device.
