In order to contribute to raising public awareness of the significance of blood donation and encourage the whole population to participate in blood donation, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a set of postage stamps "Humanitarian Blood Donation."

This is the first set of stamps in Vietnam on the theme of humanitarian blood donation.

The stamp set includes two stamps measuring 43x32 mm, priced at VND4,000 and VND15,000. The stamp set will be available on the public postal network from June 14, 2025 to December 31, 2026.

The author of the stamp set, artist Nguyen Phu Cuong, shared that in the first stamp design, the focal point is the image of a drop of blood shining, in line with the noble yet simple spirit of humanitarian blood donation.

The image of hands supporting hearts represents both the act of giving with respect and the honor of this beautiful act. The direction of the hands creates the feeling that the viewer is the one giving.

The stamp has a warm, enthusiastic background color, urging viewers to take practical actions.

In the second stamp, the images of an anemic heart and a healthy heart are used side by side.

The additional connection with a strong plus sign, the symbol of the Red Cross - humanitarian activities in the center position highlights the connection and sharing in humanitarian blood donation activities.

The layout of the text and images is concise, strong, clear and easy to understand on a blue background to convey a visual and concise message about blood donation to save lives.

Since 2004, June 14 (the birthday of Professor Karl Landsteiner - the discoverer of the ABO blood group system) has been chosen by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) as World Blood Donor Day.

In May 2005, the 58th World Health Assembly in Geneva (Switzerland) declared its commitment to voluntary blood donation.

Resolution No. WHA58.13 of the session acknowledged the positive results of the International Blood Donor Day on June 14, 2004, and decided to take June 14 every year as the International Blood Donor Day to honor voluntary blood donors and raise awareness of the need for safe blood for medical treatment.

In Vietnam, the voluntary blood donation movement was launched on January 24, 1994. In 2008, the Prime Minister decided to establish the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation.

In order to promptly honor individuals with outstanding achievements in voluntary blood donation, since 2008, each year 100 typical examples from all over the country have been selected to be honored on the occasion of "International Blood Donor Day".

2025 is the 17th year that the honoring activity has been organized, thereby continuing to affirm the special attention of the Party, State, all levels, sectors and the whole society to the voluntary blood donation movement; recognizing, praising and expressing gratitude for the kindness and noble deeds of blood donors.

The 100 honored examples donated a total of 4,800 units of blood and platelets (on average, each person donated 48 times)./.
