Last summer, the Youth Union of the School of Information Technology and Communications, Can Tho University, organized the “Digital Summer” program, attracting more than 1,200 students. The program included many diverse and rich activities: participating in the “Digital Education for the People” team of localities to support people in digital transformation; training on safe social network usage skills, skills to prevent and combat cyber attacks and identify fake news in cyberspace, along with many activities to care for disadvantaged children in and outside the city.
The force of students with expertise in information technology contributes to creating a new atmosphere in the volunteer movement. A typical example is Ly Minh Anh, a student majoring in Computer Networks and Data Communications. During the 2 summer months, Minh Anh joined the "Digital Popularization" team of Ninh Kieu Ward Youth Union, supporting people to install digital transformation applications, providing advice and guidance on implementing online public services, and coordinating training courses on skills to prevent and combat cyber attacks and identify fake news in cyberspace for students.
Minh Anh shared: “Participating in activities is an opportunity for me to apply the knowledge I have learned into practice and improve my professional skills. At the same time, through that, I have a better understanding of the operations of the state administrative apparatus”. Mr. Le Trung Hieu, Secretary of the Ninh Kieu Ward Youth Union, said that participating in volunteer activities helps students gain many useful experiences and practice soft skills, improving their competitiveness in a multinational working environment.
At Can Tho University of Technology, the Student Union has established many academic and hobby clubs, creating opportunities for students to develop soft skills. Typical clubs include Japanese, English, IT, applied engineering, 5-good students and clubs in the fields of culture, arts, and sports .
Pham Vu Luan, a student majoring in Control and Automation Engineering Technology, Head of the Japanese Club at Can Tho University of Technology, said: "The club was established in 2022 and has attracted more than 150 members. Every month, the club has activities to exchange Japanese language learning methods and learn about Japanese culture. This is a platform for students to research and learn about the beauty of Japanese culture in order to prepare well for studying abroad and finding jobs at Japanese companies". The school's Youth Union coordinates with units to organize many cultural exchange activities with foreign students; share information about international integration for union members and students on the fanpages of the school's Youth Union - Student Association; promote knowledge about the ASEAN Community; and provide information about current events at home and abroad to students.
Accompanying students in integration, the Youth Union of Tay Do University directed its affiliated units to consolidate and establish 9 new English clubs at the faculty level and 5 academic clubs. This is a playground for students to improve, learn, accumulate more knowledge, and prepare for the future. The Youth Union regularly sends students to participate in exchange programs, share learning experiences, scientific research and creative startups. Many programs are organized periodically every year, helping students improve their soft skills: "Career Counseling Day", "Potential Intern Recruitment Day", "Students' Day with Jobs" ... attracting thousands of students.
From 2022 to present, Tay Do University Youth Union has coordinated to organize 2 specialized academic competitions, 20 conferences for excellent students at all levels and 25 thematic activities on subjects, majors, and scientific research orientations, attracting more than 2,500 students. Cultural and artistic activities are organized on the occasion of major national holidays, contributing to educating students about national historical traditions.
The city's youth has increased the organization of exchange activities with international students through many direct and online forms; the "5 Good Students" forum (good ethics, good study, good volunteering, good physical strength and good integration), the "Students to Enterprises" journey and many short-term training courses on professional skills. Thereby, helping students accumulate knowledge and soft skills - the "key" to open the door to future careers.
