Imported Japanese sweet potatoes grown in Vinh Long, the tubers are this big but the selling price is decreasing, why is that?

Currently in Binh Tan district, Vinh Long province, the price of Japanese purple sweet potatoes ranges from 500,000-580,000 VND/quintal (1 quintal equals 60kg), down from 100,000-420,000 VND/quintal compared to July and down from 20,000-220,000 VND/quintal compared to the same period last year.

Some other types of sweet potatoes sold in Binh Tan district have increased or decreased in price compared to July, specifically: milky white potatoes cost 440,000 VND/quintal (increased by 90,000 VND/quintal compared to July but decreased by 30,000 VND/quintal compared to the same month last year), squash potatoes cost 300,000 VND/quintal (stable compared to July and decreased by 250,000 VND/quintal compared to the same month last year)...

In addition, the price of white potato is 520,000 VND/quintal (an increase of 170,000 VND/quintal compared to July, but a decrease of 330,000 VND/quintal compared to the same period in 2023).

In this year's Summer-Autumn crop, the entire Vinh Long province only planted 369.5 hectares of sweet potatoes (a 50% decrease compared to the same crop last year).

Up to now, localities in Vinh Long province have harvested 340 hectares of sweet potatoes, with an output of 10,820 tons (down 10,803 tons compared to the same period last year).
