Workshop "Application of AI in journalism, environmental culture and marine tourism development"

On the afternoon of June 6, in Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province, Agriculture and Environment Magazine (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) in collaboration with the Center for Media Development and Nhan Dan Newspaper organized a workshop on "Application of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism, environmental culture and marine tourism development".

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Minh Ngan and more than 100 delegates from central agencies, 28 coastal provinces and cities, experts, scientists, tourism businesses and press agencies attended the workshop.

This is a meaningful event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025) and respond to Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2025, World Environment Day (June 5), World Oceans Day (June 8).

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister Le Minh Ngan stated that the world is facing urgent environmental issues, climate change and rising sea levels, plastic waste, ocean pollution, areas that need to be protected and ecosystems revived worldwide to achieve sustainable development goals.

Vietnam has a coastline of more than 3,200km, possessing great potential for developing marine tourism , about 55% of the population lives in coastal areas, the marine environment shows signs of pollution; natural resources and biodiversity continue to decline, exploitation and use of marine and island resources are still ineffective and unsustainable... which has been and is posing great pressure on environmental management and protection.

"Joining hands and responding to the actions of Vietnam Sea and Islands Week, Action Month for the Environment in 2025, World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, organizing the workshop "Application of AI in journalism, environmental culture and marine tourism development" is extremely necessary to exchange experiences, propose solutions and expand cooperation in applying AI to developing press content, preserving marine culture, protecting the environment, communicating about ocean plastic waste and developing sustainable marine tourism", said comrade Le Minh Ngan.

Deputy Minister Le Minh Ngan suggested that the workshop focus on the main contents such as: the press effectively applying AI to communicate to the community about compliance with legal regulations on protecting the marine environment; the press promotes effective models and advanced examples of protecting the marine environment and developing sustainable marine tourism; enhancing creative connections of the community in applying AI to share press information on social networking platforms...

Attending the workshop, delegates delivered speeches on a variety of topics, focusing on in-depth analysis of digital transformation trends in journalism, AI applications to promote marine culture, protect the marine environment and promote the development of green tourism models; propaganda and communication on ocean plastic waste; propaganda on environmental protection in seafood exploitation and processing...

With the presentation: "Effective application of AI in the newsroom of press and media agencies", journalist Ngo Viet Anh, Director of the Center for Media Development, Nhan Dan Newspaper, brought delegates, especially journalists, a better understanding of the application of AI in the newsroom, as well as the strong development of digital media, thereby making more efforts in training digital skills to improve the quality of press works, including the fields of environmental culture and marine tourism development.

Within the framework of the event, delegates cut the ribbon to open the photo exhibition “Action for the blue ocean” with more than 80 works on display reflecting the lives of fishermen, the natural beauty of the sea and islands, the impact of humans on the marine ecosystem and models of marine cultural conservation in Quang Binh, coastal localities and joint actions to protect the marine environment.

On this occasion, Agriculture and Environment Magazine launched the contest "Journalism with Vietnam's seas and islands".
