Entering the "global playground" to assert themselves, young people's luggage is not only book knowledge but also foreign languages, digital skills, creativity and integration skills.
Efforts to assert oneself
Dao Ngoc Khai Hoan, a student of Culinary Arts at the Italian-Vietnamese College, is jokingly called “the boy of the kitchen” by his friends. While his peers chose to study popular majors such as information technology and economics , Hoan decided to pursue a career in cooking, a job that is both stressful and full of opportunities, especially in a tourist city like Da Nang.
In April 2024, Hoan participated in an internship at Ba Na Hills tourist area and was the only one out of 30 students to be officially accepted to work there as a kitchen assistant. Since then, Hoan's schedule has become busier. Every day, he wakes up early at 6am to travel to Ba Na, works until 5pm, then rushes home to take care of personal matters and continues to go to class from 7:30pm to 9pm. After working for more than a year, Hoan has not only accumulated a lot of professional experience but also earned about 9 million VND/month, helping him pay for tuition and support his family.
As for Pham Quang Nhut, a final year student of the Information Technology Department, University of Technology (University of Danang ), his friends and teachers commented that he has a progressive spirit and a passion for technology. While sitting in the lecture hall, he found a job in his major at a Japanese technology company headquartered in Danang.
My work focuses on researching and developing AI models such as text recognition, chatbots, or AI for editing gymnastic movements... Each project requires patience, logical thinking, and teamwork. For AI to work, we must study algorithms and data processing techniques, as a small error can cause the entire system to malfunction.
Nhut said: “Da Nang is on a strong integration journey. It is understandable that many students are interested in and pursuing AI, because this field is suitable for the new development trend. In my opinion, if we know how to take advantage of the young, creative human resources and quickly access new technology, Da Nang can completely create its own position on the technology map of the whole country.”
New luggage for integration aspirations
Tran Thi Mai Trinh, Faculty of Information Technology, Duy Tan University, impressed with her good academic performance and volunteer spirit for the community. In addition to her excellent academic performance, she was also awarded the title of “5 Good Students” and “Advanced Students Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings” at the school level.
Along with her academic achievements, Trinh is a typical face of the volunteer movement. Recently, she has participated in supporting the government and people of Dien Ban Bac ward in applying information technology and digital transformation. Trinh is also the leader of the volunteer group "Green Da Nang", regularly organizing trash collection on Son Tra peninsula, cleaning the beach and supporting programs for disadvantaged children.
“I think studying is the most important thing, but if you only learn from books without experience, you will be very confused when you graduate. Volunteering helps me improve my soft skills, gain more confidence and open up more opportunities for the future,” Trinh affirmed.
According to Nguyen Thanh Dat, Secretary of the Youth Union of Da Nang University, in the context of increasingly deep international integration, students need to be equipped with comprehensive knowledge to meet the increasing demands of the labor market. In addition to solid professional knowledge, students must practice soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem solving; at the same time, proactively equip themselves with digital skills, master information technology and the ability to quickly adapt to new platforms.
Foreign languages are considered the “key” to expanding career opportunities and confidently entering the global working environment. In addition, a spirit of learning, a learning attitude and creativity are indispensable qualities for students to develop sustainably.
“The young generation is the core force in the city’s strategy of building high-quality human resources. With their dynamism, creativity and responsibility, students are not only an important source of supplement for the labor market, but also a driving force for innovation and integration. Thereby, contributing to realizing the aspiration of making Da Nang become the economic, social, educational and technological center of the Central Highlands region,” affirmed Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dat.
