Some teachers said that the answers to the Literature exam for grade 10 in Hanoi this year have details that do not match the statements in the test.

After the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the answers and grading scale for the Literature exam for public grade 10 in 2025, some teachers said that the answers were not really suitable for the command in the social argumentative essay.

Specifically, question 2 of the Writing section (4 points) in the 10th grade Literature exam gives the command:

"The years of studying at school are a precious time with so much joy with teachers and friends... However, not everyone feels that. Write an essay (about 400 words) answering the question: How to always find joy in school years?".

The official marking system of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires candidates to choose appropriate argumentative operations; closely combine reasoning and evidence; and present a suitable system of ideas according to the three-part structure of an argumentative essay.

Candidates can develop main ideas in the direction of: understanding what is the joy of student life; clearly stating the current situation, causes...; proposing feasible and convincing solutions.

Dr. Phung Dieu Linh, a Literature lecturer in Hanoi, wondered, the answer seemed to go against the focus of the sentence.

The question "how to find joy in school life?" focuses on the solution to find joy in school life. However, the answer requires clarifying the current situation and causes - factors that the female PhD believes are not consistent with the original statement.

"What is the cause of finding joy in school life? And what is the reality of that problem? Does a bad reality need a solution?", Dr. Linh asked.

According to the female doctor, if you really want students to write about the current situation or the cause, the exam needs to clearly state the discussion topic, such as the loss of joy in school age, in the question. The basic principle of communication is to answer the question. Therefore, Dr. Linh hopes that this is just a small mistake when making and reviewing the answers.

" When grading, the board should edit to avoid being mechanical and to avoid discrepancies between the questions and answers," said Dr. Linh.

A more reasonable answer is that the essay needs to have a paragraph clarifying the discussion issue to determine the focus. Next, it is possible to discuss the value of student joy (however, this part should not be a mandatory criterion, because the essay is limited to 400 words, so if it is missing, no points will be deducted).

The focus of the article should be the solution discussion, 2-3 solutions should be presented, each solution must be convincingly proven and feasible through specific arguments and evidence. The solution should come from the student's perspective, not mechanical formulas that present enough solutions: students, schools, society or list without any argument.

Sharing the same opinion with Dr. Phung Dieu Linh, some other teachers also expressed confusion, with the command “How to always find joy in school age”, why students have to clearly state the current situation and causes. With the limit of 400 words, proposing feasible and convincing solutions has taken up all the space, not to mention explaining, stating the current situation and causes.

However, there are also opinions that social argumentative essays need to ensure logic, so before offering solutions, it is necessary to look at the current situation, causes, consequences and the grading instructions of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training are appropriate.

Ms. Nguyen Cam Tu, a Literature teacher in Hanoi, believes that stating the cause is also necessary to solve the question "How to always find joy in school life?". That is, students need to understand the cause to find practical and feasible solutions. However, this part does not need to be too long but needs to invest in solutions as required by the question.

According to Ms. Tu, the answer emphasizes "The main ideas can be developed in the direction of...", which means giving the examiner the initiative and flexibility. Students also have many options for presenting their test papers, as long as they meet the requirements.

According to the plan of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, from June 9 to June 22, the examination board will mark multiple-choice tests. From June 11 to June 22, the examination board will mark essay tests.

It is expected that around July 4-6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will simultaneously announce the exam scores and grade 10 benchmark scores. Immediately after being admitted to their first choice, candidates must complete admission procedures from 1:30 p.m. on July 10 to 12 a.m. on July 12 online or in person.
