US Open Badminton Tournament: Tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh meets 16-year-old talent

Vietnam's No. 1 badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh is expected to shine at the 2025 US Open badminton tournament starting tomorrow but also faces challenges from young talents.

The 2025 US Open is part of the Badminton World Federation's World Tour Super 300 system. The tournament has a total prize money of 240,000 USD (about 6 billion VND), of which the prize for the individual championship title (men's singles, women's singles) is 18,000 USD (about 450 million VND). The tournament has the participation of 3 Vietnamese players: Nguyen Thuy Linh (ranked 23rd in women's singles in the world), Le Duc Phat (ranked 68th in men's singles in the world) and Nguyen Hai Dang (ranked 72nd in men's singles in the world).

Tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh is expected to shine at the 2025 US Open badminton tournament taking place from June 24 to 29.

In the women's singles, Nguyen Thuy Linh was selected as the second seed while the first seed is the host American player Zhang Beiwen (ranked 21st in the world). According to the draw results, 27-year-old Nguyen Thuy Linh will face 16-year-old Indian badminton talent Sharma Tanvi (ranked 66th in the world). She is the number 1 young badminton player in India and a member of the Indian badminton team that won the 2024 Asian women's team championship when defeating Thailand with a score of 3-2. Nguyen Thuy Linh has never faced Sharma Tanvi, but this 11-year-old opponent is expected to cause many difficulties for the number 1 Vietnamese player. In her bracket, Nguyen Thuy Linh is likely to face other young players such as Pitchamon (Thailand, 17 years old), Tanya Hemanth (India, 21 years old)...

In the men's singles, Le Duc Phat will face Sheng Xiaodong (Canada, ranked 85th in the world) in the first round while Nguyen Hai Dang will face Danish player Mads Christophersen (ranked 69th in the world) in the opening match. Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang are trying to advance further in the US Open to improve their position on the world badminton rankings.
