Pepper price today 8/8/2025: Dak Lak increased slightly

According to statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in July 2025, Vietnam imported more than 3,100 tons of pepper of all kinds with a turnover of 21.3 million USD. Compared to the previous month, import volume decreased by nearly 48%, and turnover also decreased by more than 43%. Of which, black pepper accounted for the majority with nearly 2,900 tons, the rest was white pepper.

The three largest pepper importers in the month included Olam with more than 1,200 tons, KSS with 243 tons, and Nedspice with 226 tons. In terms of supply, Brazil was Vietnam's largest partner, supplying nearly 1,600 tons, accounting for nearly 50% of total imports. Cambodia and Indonesia followed, with imports also dropping significantly.

According to Mr. Le Viet Anh, General Secretary of VPSA, the reason many businesses choose to import is because pepper prices from Brazil and Indonesia are significantly cheaper than domestic pepper. Production costs in Brazil are only about 2 USD/kg, equivalent to 52,000 - 53,000 VND, while in Vietnam it fluctuates between 65,000 - 70,000 VND/kg. Indonesian pepper prices are also sometimes about 100 USD/ton lower than Vietnam.

Increasing pepper imports is considered a strategy of large enterprises in the context of decreasing domestic output, increasing global prices and increasing demand for processing and re-export. Importing from countries with low prices helps them ensure input materials at competitive costs to serve exports.
