On August 23, Tuoi Tre Online recorded that Vietnam's rice export price remained the same as yesterday. However, compared to the general level in the international market, Vietnamese rice price is still "number 1".
Vietnamese rice is the most expensive in the world
According to information from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), on August 23, 5% standard rice is currently at 399 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 368 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 339 USD/ton.
"Vietnam's rice export prices are going against the trend compared to competitors such as Thailand, India and Pakistan. It is predicted that the strong increase will continue, and Vietnam's rice prices will have more surprises in the coming time," said a member of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).
Previously, according to statistics from the Customs Department, as of August 15, Vietnamese enterprises had exported nearly 5.88 million tons of rice, earning more than 3 billion USD. The average rice export price reached nearly 512 USD/ton.
Meanwhile, the export price of the same type of rice from Thailand decreased to 354 USD/ton, from India to 376 USD/ton and from Pakistan to 355 USD/ton.
Vietnam's rice price is currently the highest among the top four exporting countries, surpassing Thailand by 45 USD/ton, India by 23 USD/ton and Pakistan by 44 USD/ton.
Rising up by increasing the value of Vietnamese rice
In the context of weakening global demand, especially the world's "number 1 customer", the Philippines, temporarily suspending rice imports for 60 days from September 1; competitors have sharply lowered prices, Vietnam's competitive advantage in price may be narrowed, but Vietnamese rice prices are "bright" in the race with rice from other countries. According to Vietnamese businesses, the reason is that Vietnamese rice has shifted its focus from increasing output to improving product value.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc (a rice export purchasing enterprise in Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnamese exported rice is currently all delicious and high quality rice.
Mr. Phuoc said: "I have partners who buy rice from Vietnam and Thailand. In previous years, compared to Thai businesses, Vietnamese rice businesses were very small in the eyes of partners.
Currently, Vietnamese rice is growing, has value and is recognized, so partners need Vietnamese businesses more. In the near future, it will continue to increase strongly, I think Vietnamese rice will bring more joy in terms of price to people and businesses."
Meanwhile, according to economic experts, the trend of shifting from quantity to improving the quality of rice is creating a good competitive advantage for Vietnamese rice.
In the long term, the sustainable direction for Vietnamese rice exports needs to include more organic rice, traceability, and national brand building.
Prime Minister proposes to "speed up" rice export
Regarding rice export, the Government Office recently issued a document conveying the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, assigning the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to study information, preside over, and coordinate with relevant agencies to have a specific plan to immediately handle according to its authority those related to the "lightning-fast" implementation of rice export, especially high-quality rice.
Along with that, we need to seize opportunities and "speed up" the export of rice, especially high-quality rice and organic rice, linked to the traceability system and building a national rice brand to increase added value in rice exports.
At the same time, accelerate the implementation of the sustainable development project of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation, associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030.
