Simultaneously raising clearance of 3 bridges in Dong Thap

According to the investigation of Giao thong Newspaper reporters, Dong Thap province has three bridges with increased clearance: Giong Gang bridge in Tan Hong district, Hong Ngu bridge in Hong Ngu city and Sa Dec bridge in Sa Dec city.

The work of raising the clearance of three bridges in Dong Thap is being actively carried out by the contractor.

At the construction site, dozens of workers and many machines and equipment are operating continuously.

Mr. Vo Van Quang, Deputy Project Manager, Bien Dong Construction and Consulting Joint Stock Company, said that the Hong Ngu Bridge will be constructed by the company at the end of May 2024.

To date, the project has progressed more than 10%. Currently, the company has assigned workers to carry out tasks such as dismantling the old bridge, drilling bored piles and constructing the bridge's substructure.

To do this, the company has mobilized 30 workers and 10 specialized machines and equipment to the construction site. The construction work up to this point has basically been favorable and the contractor is trying to do well the assigned work.

"The old bridge has been dismantled, the company is organizing workers to salvage waste materials. At the same time, in the next 3 to 4 days, the company will gather raw materials at the construction site," said Mr. Quang.

After the temporary bridge is completed, the contractor will dismantle the old bridge to raise the clearance of Sa Dec bridge.

At Sa Dec bridge, Mr. Pham Minh Tam, technical officer of Dat Phuong Group Company No. 2, said that the project was organized by the company in April 2024. Currently, at the construction site, the contractor has workers constructing a temporary bridge.

"The temporary bridge will be opened to traffic by the company on August 20. At the same time, during this time, the contractor will also have workers dismantle the old bridge to start building a new Sa Dec bridge," said Mr. Tam.

Mr. Tam added that after the temporary bridge is opened, it will only be used for motorbikes, scooters and pedestrians. Cars, including three-wheeled motorbikes, will have to follow the traffic flow according to regulations.

"Currently, the company has also installed traffic signs as directed by specialized agencies to reorganize traffic when the old Sa Dec bridge is dismantled," Mr. Tam informed.

Actively clearing the site

According to Mr. Tam, the old Sa Dec bridge has a clearance of 20m wide and a height of 4.6m. Meanwhile, according to the design, the new bridge has a clearance of 38m wide and a height of 7m. To date, the construction progress has reached 30%.

Due to land issues, raising the clearance of bridges in Dong Thap has not been smooth.

"However, the current difficulty the contractor is facing is the construction site. The company is concerned that after the old bridge is dismantled, construction will be difficult because there is not much clean construction site," said Mr. Tam.

Mr. Tran Van Tuan, the consulting and supervising unit of Hong Ngu bridge, said that after completing the clearance raising, the new Hong Ngu bridge will have a horizontal clearance greater than 5.5m and be 2m higher than the old bridge.

According to the assessment, the contractor basically ensured the progress according to the proposed construction plan. However, the implementation is still difficult due to the land issue of a household with three locations at the bridgehead in An Thanh ward.

"This household had previously filed a lawsuit many years ago during the construction of Highway 30. Currently, the work of raising the clearance of Hong Ngu Bridge on this route continues to be stuck," Mr. Tuan added.

As for Giong Gang Bridge, the old bridge had a clearance of 20m wide and 4m high. After the clearance was raised, the clearance was raised to 25m wide and 6m high.

The investor is actively coordinating with local authorities to soon have a clean site.

The leader of the Waterway Project Management Board, Ministry of Transport (investor) said that the existing bridge system has been contributing greatly to the socio-economic development in Dong Thap province in recent times.

At the same time, the existing bridge system creates continuous and convenient connections for people's travel as well as the transportation of goods of businesses operating in the province.

However, to further develop, some bridges in Dong Thap need to have their clearance raised, including three bridges: Hong Ngu, Giong Gang and Sa Dec. Because after a period of use, these bridges affect waterway traffic, especially during flood season when the water level rises.

The time to carry out the clearance raising for these three bridges is 18 months. To date, the construction progress of the project has reached nearly 13%.

In particular, in the implementation of raising the clearance of Giong Gang bridge, the contractor has mobilized a part of materials and equipment to the construction site, completing 1/7 of the temporary bridge abutment and pier positions.

Hong Ngu Bridge, the contractor has completed 16/58 bored piles, T1 pier base, M1 pier base and completed dismantling the old bridge. Currently constructing bored piles for pier T3 to pier T6, reinforced concrete for T1 pier cap, T2 pier base and M2 pier.

Regarding the construction progress of Sa Dec bridge, the contractor has completed 7/7 temporary bridge abutment/pillar positions. At the same time, the temporary road is being constructed, the remaining girder span is being fabricated and installed to complete and open the temporary bridge to traffic according to the prescribed time.

"Regarding the construction site problems, the investor also regularly coordinates with local authorities and related units to actively resolve them as soon as possible, in accordance with the contractor's actual construction situation," added the leader of the Waterway Project Management Board.

Sa Dec Bridge has a total land area to be recovered of 1.51 hectares, with a total number of households to be compensated of 83 households.

Hong Ngu Bridge has a total land area to be recovered of 1,665 hectares, with a total number of households to be compensated of 95 households.

The total land area to be recovered at Giong Gang Bridge is 1,665 hectares, with a total of 3 households to be compensated located on the side of DT842 in An Phuoc commune, Tan Hong district (Dong Thap).
