After a decade of stellar performances for Man City, De Bruyne has decided to join Napoli on a free transfer. His debut for the reigning Serie A champions was relatively quiet, but the Belgian still attracted the attention of many fans with his statements.

The former Man City player chose to undergo his medical at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome rather than in Naples, where thousands of enthusiastic fans were ready to welcome him.
However, a small group of Napoli fans still managed to show up when the Belgian midfielder arrived at the Villa Stuart clinic, 225km from Napoli's home ground Diego Armando Maradona.
“I remember the atmosphere was really loud. The fans were crazy! But I liked it. I loved them and I got to know a little bit about how Napoli works, how the city supports the team. That made me feel like this is where I wanted to be,” Kevin De Bruyne told Napoli’s media channels.
Despite receiving many invitations from MLS teams or Saudi Arabia with high salaries, De Bruyne still firmly chose Napoli of coach Conte as a place to continue his top-level playing career.
Compared to his salary of more than 20 million euros per season at Man City, De Bruyne's new income at Napoli is significantly lower.
According to British media, the Belgian player has signed a two-year contract with Napoli, with an option to extend for a further year. De Bruyne's salary at Napoli is said to be around €6 million per year for the first two seasons, dropping to €5 million in the third season if the extension clause is activated.
“For me, being on the pitch with my teammates and hearing the cheers from the stands is the happiest thing. I am a person who likes to win, so I will do everything to help Napoli win every match.
Last season Napoli won the Scudetto, so we will be in the Champions League next season. I hope the whole team will unite to make history in this prestigious tournament," said De Bruyne.
During his 10 years playing at Man City, De Bruyne won 6 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 5 League Cups and especially the 2023 Champions League title.

He was also twice named Premier League Player of the Season, joining legends such as Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic and Mohamed Salah.
With 422 matches for Man City, De Bruyne scored 108 goals and 177 assists, affirming his position as one of the best midfielders in Premier League history.
De Bruyne's move to Napoli is not only a quality addition to coach Antonio Conte's squad, but also a testament to the club's ambition to win major titles.
The appearance of the Belgian midfielder promises to bring a new breeze to Napoli's midfield area. Coach Conte's army will be a formidable opponent for any team in Serie A as well as the Champions League next season.
