"Red alert" saves patient's life
Previously, on July 29, a young man was working out at the gym when he suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness, suffering cardiac arrest. The gym staff performed CPR on the young man and called 115 for emergency help.
After 15 minutes, the 115 emergency staff arrived at the scene and continued to perform CPR and defibrillation 3 times on the victim, and the heart started beating again. The patient was immediately transferred to the emergency department of E Hospital at 2:50 p.m. the same day.
Upon receiving a report from the 115 emergency department that a 20-year-old patient had suffered a cardiac arrest and needed emergency care, Hospital E immediately activated the "red alert" procedure for the entire hospital with the participation of many doctors from many specialties gathered at the emergency department of Hospital E to be ready for emergency care.
The patient was admitted to the emergency department in a coma, Glasgow score 5, dilated pupils... The patient was intubated and ventilated, given sedatives, anti-cerebral edema drugs and transferred to the internal medicine and anti-poisoning intensive care unit.
Doctor Nguyen Thi Ly, Department of Internal Medicine Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning, assessed that this patient was seriously ill and had a poor prognosis, so the doctors continued to actively resuscitate the patient and prescribed hypothermia techniques.
During the procedure, the patient remained in a coma, on a ventilator, and was closely monitored according to the hypothermia treatment protocol. After 3 days of treatment, the patient's consciousness improved and he no longer needed to use vasopressors, could breathe on his own, and the endotracheal tube could be removed...
Many causes of cardiac arrest
Doctor Vu Van Ba, Department of Adult Cardiology, Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital, said that after consultation, cardiologists thought of the possibility that the patient had a dangerous ventricular arrhythmia causing sudden cardiac arrest. One of the dangerous arrhythmias that often causes cardiac arrest in young men is idiopathic ventricular fibrillation.
This is an arrhythmia found in patients with cardiac arrest without a clear cause of heart structure, coronary artery disease or metabolic disease after completing all tests and imaging diagnostics.
Although it is called "idiopathic", medical practice has identified a number of underlying mechanisms and factors involved.
Doctor Ba added that there are some dangerous arrhythmias that do not have previous symptoms but are the cause of cardiac arrest, such as Brugada syndrome, long QT syndrome, early repolarization syndrome, or right ventricular cardiomyopathy...
This is a group of diseases mainly related to genetic abnormalities, which can only be detected early through cardiovascular screening.
Doctors advise that sudden cardiac arrest can occur at any age and in any gender. Although physical activity is necessary, it is necessary to apply appropriate exercise methods depending on each age and health condition, and should not exercise too hard. It is necessary to have a healthy lifestyle, avoid stress, and have a suitable diet.
In particular, if you experience chest pain lasting more than 10-15 minutes or pain that causes respiratory arrest, you should go to a medical facility immediately for examination and timely treatment.
