On September 13, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department - Ho Chi Minh City Police Department announced that people need to be proactive in being vigilant against online fraud, following the incident of personal data leakage at the National Credit Information Center (CIC).

According to the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (PA05), regarding the cyber security incident at CIC recently announced by the Vietnam Cyberspace Emergency Response Center (VNCERT), initial results show signs of personal data being compromised.

However, PA05 recommends that people do not panic before false warnings related to requests to change bank cards - block cards - withdraw savings... because this could be a trick to lure victims into following fraudulent scenarios.

People should note that credit information collected by CIC according to the law does not include information about: Deposit accounts, deposit balances, savings books, payment accounts, debit card numbers, credit card numbers, security codes (CVV/CVC), and customer payment transaction history.

The information technology systems of independent credit institutions and the service provision activities of credit institutions are currently being implemented continuously, safely and stably.

Previously, the Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police advised people to absolutely not provide passwords or OTPs to anyone via phone, text message, or email.

Do not click on strange links and only log in to the bank's official application and website. Verify information via hotline or go directly to the bank or authorities. Do not transfer "verification" money to an unknown account.

Students and workers should absolutely not believe advertisements for "CIC debt cancellation" or "fast loans with 0% interest".

Families with elderly people should remind and instruct their relatives how to recognize fraudulent calls and messages.

The Criminal Police Department believes that after the largest data leak ever, cyber criminals will become more sophisticated because they have real information of the victims. Every citizen needs to be vigilant and proactively update warnings from the police, banks and mainstream media.
