Relegation nightmare for Man Utd

(Dan Tri) - The risk of relegation is no longer too far away for Man Utd. In fact, they are closer to relegation than a ticket to the Champions League.

Last season, coach Ruben Amorim mentioned the possibility that Man Utd might be relegated. At that time, many people laughed at the Portuguese strategist's statement. However, Man Utd was also "embarrassed" when they had to finish the season in 15th place. This is the club's worst position in the Premier League era.

This season, Man Utd has spent more than 200 million pounds to bring in a series of new players, especially in the attack. However, the situation has not improved much. The 0-3 loss to Man City last night continued to cast a dark shadow over the atmosphere at Old Trafford.

They continue to break the worst record. Statistically, this is Man Utd's worst start to a Premier League campaign in 33 years. The last time they won just 4 points in the opening 4 rounds was in the 1992-93 season, under coach Sir Alex Ferguson. Last season, when the club finished in the lowest position, the Red Devils still won 6 points and finished 10th.

Now, the relegation nightmare continues to threaten Man Utd. And this time, no one feels as surprised as when coach Amorim first mentioned this. According to analysis by the supercomputer Opta, Man Utd's chance of relegation is 10.95%, which is double the chance of winning a ticket to the Champions League (4.18%) of this club.

Under-pressure manager Ruben Amorim has said he will not change his football philosophy despite criticism. He has a win rate of just 26%, the third-lowest of any Man Utd manager to have managed more than 20 games. The Portuguese has also won the fewest points of any Premier League team (excluding relegated teams).

“The results speak for themselves,” said the Portuguese coach. “I understand the frustration of the fans and I accept the pressure. But I will not change the way I play. I will do everything for the club, and other decisions are not mine.”

In the next round, Man Utd will continue to have a difficult away trip to Chelsea. If they continue to lose, the Red Devils can completely fall into the red light group (Man Utd is only 1 point above this group). At that time, coach Amorim is at high risk of being fired.
