In a small house at the end of Tan My village, Uyen Nhi is still absorbed in reviewing her knowledge to prepare for the new school year. "I passed the entrance exam to the 10th grade specialized in Literature, so I am very happy and am consolidating my knowledge to achieve better results in the new school year. Due to my poor circumstances, I am determined to study well to win a scholarship to cover the cost of studying away from home and to make my aunt worry less," Uyen Nhi shared.
Ho Thi Uyen Nhi used to have a happy family, but when she was just 4 years old, a traffic accident took away her father forever. "When Nhi was 3 years old, her parents left her with me to take care of her so they could go to Khe Sanh to make a living. After Nhi's father passed away, her mother left her with me to continue taking care of her so that she could make a living in the mountainous region of Khe Sanh. In 2024, her mother remarried, so Nhi has been living with me until now. The life of the two of them is still difficult, but Nhi is very obedient, studies well, and understands things, which makes me love her even more," said Ho Thi Lu, 69 years old, Uyen Nhi's aunt.

Over the years, to have money to support Nhi's education and living expenses, Mrs. Lu has tried her best to cultivate 2 sao of rice fields, grow some vegetables, a few grapefruit trees in the garden, raise a few chickens, ducks and take care of 5 pepper trees. "Nhi is still young, her health is weak and I am also old, so I often have to ask for help with the farming. When I sell the chicken, duck, vegetables, and some pepper, my aunt and niece have money to spend and buy school supplies. When I don't have money, I have to borrow it temporarily, wait until harvest time or sell the chickens and ducks and then pay it back gradually. Seeing me suffer, my niece is also obedient, actively doing housework and gardening outside of school hours. Over the years, my aunt and niece have relied on each other to get by," Mrs. Lu confided.
Over the years, Nhi has always achieved impressive academic results, especially in Literature. She won second prize in Literature in the provincial-level cultural competition for excellent secondary school students in the 2024-2025 school year and passed the entrance exam to grade 10 specializing in Literature at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted with a fairly high score. "I hope that in the future I can pass the entrance exam to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Ho Chi Minh City National University to pursue my dream. But the current situation makes me very worried because the road ahead is still too difficult. I am very afraid that my learning path will be unfinished," Nhi shared.
Recently, Mrs. Lu's health has seriously declined. She often suffers from low blood pressure and bone and joint diseases, making it difficult for her to make a living. "Many times when I am in pain, I still try to dig the land to grow vegetables, raise chickens and ducks to earn money to pay for my grandchild's education. I'm afraid that one day I will get sick and can no longer work, and I will become a burden that will prevent my grandchild from fulfilling his dream," Mrs. Lu choked.
Deputy Secretary of the Cua Tung Commune Youth Union Nguyen Duc Tu Anh said: "Over the past years, the Commune Youth Union, together with the local Party Committee and authorities, have regularly visited and encouraged Ho Thi Uyen Nhi. This is a particularly difficult case, so we hope that organizations, individuals, and philanthropists will join hands to help and support her dream of conquering the university campus, making it less precarious...".
