Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc visits former political prisoners in Con Dao Special Zone

On the afternoon of August 7, comrade Nguyen Van Duoc, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and a working delegation visited and presented gifts to comrade Nguyen Xuan Vien, a former political prisoner in Con Dao, currently living in residential area No. 7, Con Dao special zone.

In the warm atmosphere at comrade Nguyen Xuan Vien's home, comrade Nguyen Van Duoc kindly asked about his health and family life and expressed his deep gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of comrade and his family for the country's revolutionary cause.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that examples like Comrade Nguyen Xuan Vien are living symbols of the resilient revolutionary spirit, and are shining examples for the younger generation to learn from and follow. The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested that local authorities continue to pay attention to and take care of the health of Comrade Nguyen Xuan Vien's family.

Former political prisoner Nguyen Xuan Vien expressed his pride in having contributed to the cause of national liberation and unification. Comrade Nguyen Xuan Vien affirmed that he will continue to be a shining example for his children and grandchildren and, within his capacity, will strive to contribute to the development of Con Dao special zone and contribute to the development of Ho Chi Minh City.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Vien, born in 1944, from Quang Nam province (formerly), joined the revolution in January 1965. During his time in the movement, he was injured and imprisoned by the enemy in 1968, then exiled to Con Dao prison in 1969. He was detained in many notorious prisons such as Camp 1, Camp 6, Zone B, Camp 7, Zone B.

After the Liberation of Con Dao (May 1, 1975), he continued to participate in local work in various roles such as commune police, cultural officer, relic manager, and held management positions in administrative agencies of Con Dao district (formerly) until his retirement in 2001.

He was awarded the Second Class Anti-American Resistance Medal by the Party and State; a commemorative medal for revolutionary soldiers imprisoned by the enemy, and many certificates of merit for his work and combat.

Currently, he enjoys the prescribed benefits; Comrade Nguyen Xuan Vien and his wife are living with their son, who is an official at the Con Dao Special Zone Public Administration Service Center, and their daughter-in-law, who works at the Military and Civilian Medical Center of the Special Zone.
