Qualcomm – the world's leading corporation in 5G mobile and wireless technology, with a market capitalization of about 160 billion USD – has been present in Vietnam for more than 20 years. In 2020, the corporation established the first Research and Development (R&D) Center in Southeast Asia in Hanoi; in April 2025, it acquired MovianAI (part of VinAI/ Vingroup ) and established the AI R&D Center in Hanoi – Qualcomm's third largest global AI center, after the US and India.
At the meeting, Qualcomm's Chairman shared about the group's activities and proposed cooperation plans in the Vietnamese market to develop strategic and innovative technology industries such as AI, semiconductors, IoT device manufacturing, electronics, and smartphones; thereby contributing to building a highly competitive Vietnamese economy . Believing that Vietnam will become a regional center for research and development, especially in AI, he affirmed that Qualcomm is ready to strengthen cooperation, support capacity building, and train human resources for Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and highly appreciated Qualcomm for its more than 20 years of accompanying the development of the telecommunications and technology industry in Vietnam, especially in key areas such as mobile connectivity, technology transfer, AI research, STEM training, startup support, and promoting the innovation ecosystem. The Prime Minister emphasized that the establishment of the AI Research and Development Center in Hanoi is an important milestone, demonstrating the group's long-term commitment.
During the visit of President Cristiano Amon, the Prime Minister congratulated Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Qualcomm on signing a cooperation agreement towards establishing the VNPT – Qualcomm Center of Excellence.
The Prime Minister suggested that Qualcomm continue to expand its in-depth investment in Vietnam, focusing on core technologies and high value-added stages in the semiconductor industry chain; promote cooperation with enterprises, research institutes, universities, and national innovation centers; support Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the supply and production chains of Qualcomm and its partners; and share management experience, human resource training, and institutional improvement.
