Buon Kuop Hydropower Company has issued a warning about overflowing of hydropower plants during the National Day holiday on September 2. People in the downstream area should take the initiative to avoid damage.

Currently, the water levels of Buôn Tua Srah, Buôn Kuốp and Serépok 3 reservoirs are approximately at the water levels prescribed in the Inter-reservoir Operation Procedures on the Serépok River Basin.

At the same time, there was significant rain in the reservoir basins, so the water flow to the reservoirs was stable at a high level.

According to the forecast of the National Power System Dispatch Center (A0), in the coming time, the power system load will tend to decrease, especially on September 2 and 3, 2023, the Buôn Tua Srah, Buôn Kuốp and Srêpok 3 plants are likely to have low machine operation capacity.

With the above hydrological situation and low exploitation capacity, reservoirs are at risk of having to discharge water through spillways to ensure compliance with water levels as prescribed.

The company recommends that the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, departments and branches direct the dissemination to people in the downstream areas of reservoirs about the above risks of overflow regulation so that they can know and proactively prevent them, especially for aquaculture activities, livestock grazing and tourism activities along rivers and at tourist waterfalls.

In addition, when reservoirs discharge water over spillways, relevant agencies and units regularly coordinate and exchange information with hydropower project owners to have effective response measures when situations arise.
