The AI boom also comes with huge challenges in terms of energy and infrastructure capacity.
Mr. Dong Mai Lam, General Director of Schneider Electric Vietnam and Cambodia, emphasized: “AI becomes a strong catalyst for digitalization and sustainable growth. To catch up with the AI wave, we need a revolution in the construction and operation of data centers, the design and construction of smart buildings, and smart grids.”
The above comments were shared by experts at the Innovation Conference - Innovation Day Hanoi 2025 organized by Schneider Electric Group on the afternoon of September 17.
In the context of AI becoming an indispensable part of all technologies, that wave is spreading strongly to Vietnam and countries in the region, opening up unprecedented opportunities.
In ASEAN, AI is expected to contribute an additional 10-18% to total GDP growth, equivalent to about 1,000 billion USD by 2030.
According to forecasts, the AI market in Vietnam will grow by an average of 15.8% per year, reaching a scale of 1.52 billion USD by 2030, and could even contribute up to 130 billion USD to the Vietnamese economy by 2040.
According to Mr. Dong Mai Lam, the construction of digital infrastructure needs to be based on three main pillars: smart data centers, smart buildings and smart grids that need to be designed and operated in a new way to be ready for AI.
Accordingly, AI tasks are growing exponentially, requiring more powerful infrastructure than ever to meet extremely high computing density. Advanced technology solutions for data centers such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling, high-density rack cabinets, large-capacity three-phase UPS systems, etc. are needed to meet the needs of optimizing performance and increasing resilience to unusual incidents.
Along with that, applying AI in smart buildings is an energy management solution that helps reduce up to 45% of building operating carbon emissions.
In particular, this application helps shift from the traditional electricity consumption model to integrated energy supply and demand, where the building both uses electricity and produces electricity from renewable energy sources.
Thanks to the application of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to the grid management system, power companies can monitor the entire grid in real time right at the control center.
The software helps monitor voltage, current, on/off points and detect abnormalities early. The system can automatically adjust power distribution based on load demand and supply, ensuring the grid always operates stably and efficiently.
In addition, AI-integrated platforms help support the connection of distributed energy sources such as solar power and storage, helping to balance supply and demand and optimize operating costs.
