Reuters quoted a statement from the US State Department on June 23 saying that the meeting took place on June 13-14 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Representatives of the five nuclear powers discussed "strategic risk reduction as well as nuclear weapons doctrines and policies," according to the statement.

Mr. John Kirby, spokesman for the US National Security Council, said on the same day that the meeting was part of the "continuous, periodic dialogue" between the five countries, according to the provisions of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
