Iced coffee and meatloaf: a familiar morning duo, but is it any good?

Many people have the habit of eating meatloaf for breakfast, sipping coffee and then going to work. However, combining acidic coffee with meatloaf, especially processed meat, can be harmful to digestion.

Coffee, especially when consumed on an empty stomach, triggers the stomach to secrete more acid. For people with sensitive stomachs or reflux, eating a lot of white starchy foods can easily make symptoms more uncomfortable. Excess acid can irritate the stomach lining, while fat and salt slow down digestion. This creates a favorable environment for reflux, heartburn, bloating, and digestive discomfort. Nutritionists recommend avoiding strong caffeine drinks or fatty foods right after waking up in the morning, especially for people with sensitive digestive systems.

Those who still love iced coffee and meatloaf in the morning can still eat it but need to apply some methods. After waking up, before drinking coffee, they should have a light snack with vegetable fat or protein such as almonds, peanut butter, boiled eggs. With bread, prioritize bread with boiled meat, eggs, fish and beans, according to Verywell Health .
