Specifically, the Vietnam Blockchain Association officially changed its name to the Vietnam Blockchain and Digital Assets Association (still keeping the abbreviation VBA). The new name reflects the association's change in orientation, from promoting blockchain technology to playing a central role in creating and leading the development of the digital asset market and blockchain ecosystem, starting with the Vietnam Blockchain Multi-Chain Service Network (VBSN).
Ms. Pham Thu Hang, Deputy Director of the Department of Non-Governmental Organizations, Ministry of Home Affairs, said that the name change shows the association's development and open vision, quickly grasping the trend of developing the digital asset market. This is a field that plays a very important role in the digital economy , but is also very sensitive and has a high risk of fraud and money laundering while legal regulations have a certain delay.
Therefore, on this occasion, Ms. Pham Thu Hang suggested that, along with development orientations on technology, finance, and application, VBA should soon issue a Code of Ethics for members to ensure strong but healthy and sustainable operations, in compliance with legal regulations on anti-money laundering and financial transparency.
The decision to change the name was approved on the basis of 100% consensus of members present at the extraordinary congress of the Association for the 2025-2030 term held on July 25 in Hanoi. The congress was held in accordance with Decree 126/2024/ND-CP on the organization, operation and management of the association, with representatives of state management agencies including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Technology in attendance.
Ms. Nguyen Van Hien, Vice President and General Secretary of the association affirmed: "The name change not only shows keeping up with the trend of the times but also affirms the determination to accelerate the process of integrating blockchain technology and digital assets into the legal, financial and public service systems, bringing Vietnam into the global digital transformation flow".
This activity of the Association takes place in the context that Vietnam has issued many strategic and directional policies for the blockchain and digital asset industry, in the spirit of Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on scientific and technological breakthroughs, innovation and national digital transformation.
At the same time, many professional associations in the blockchain industry around the world also repositioned their brands to reflect the shift in this field, typically the Global Digital Finance Association in the UK, the Digital Economy Council of Australia (DECA) and the Japan Crypto Asset Business Association (JCBA).
Affirming its pioneering role in promoting the blockchain and digital asset ecosystem in Vietnam, Mr. Phan Duc Trung, Chairman of VBA said: “Over the past three years, VBA has not only focused on promoting the application of blockchain technology but also gradually built the foundation for the long-term development of the digital asset ecosystem in Vietnam through the pillars of policy consultation, education, community connection, and practical contributions to the development of blockchain technology in Vietnam”.
