Many lecturers at Quang Nam Medical College stopped working due to 6 months of unpaid salary

On the morning of December 15, Mr. Huynh Tan Tuan, Principal of Quang Nam Medical College, said he was working with staff and lecturers related to the decision to stop working collectively due to prolonged unpaid wages.

According to Mr. Tuan, after receiving the petition from the staff and lecturers, yesterday afternoon (December 14) and this morning (December 15), the school leaders organized meetings with the lecturers to discuss solutions.

According to Mr. Tuan, this was an unexpected incident. The collective work stoppage by staff and lecturers will greatly affect the school's operations.

Previously, also on December 14, 17 officers and lecturers of Quang Nam Medical College sent a notice of collective work stoppage to the school's leadership.

In the announcement, 17 staff and lecturers of the Nursing and Basic Health departments said they will stop working from December 18 until the school resolves the salary and allowance regime.

According to the lecturers, the school has not paid their salaries and allowances for 6 months, from July 2023 to now. The staff and lecturers still try to go to class because they do not want to affect the students' studies.

However, due to the long period of unpaid wages, the lives of many lecturers and staff have fallen into very difficult situations and they cannot continue working.

The issue of unpaid wages for employees of Quang Nam Medical College has been going on for a long time. Up to now, the school owes 6 months of wages to 114 employees, with a total amount of more than 5.7 billion VND. In addition, this unit has been late in paying insurance for many months.

Recently, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province requested Quang Nam Medical College to report, explain and review the collective and individual responsibilities related to the direction of the school's activities, allowing the shortcomings to persist, causing public outrage.

Notably, the Inspection Committee of Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee previously disciplined many groups and individuals at Quang Nam Medical College for signs of violations.

Specifically, the Party Committee of Quang Nam Medical College for the 2015-2020 and 2020-2025 terms violated the Party Committee's working regulations, loosened leadership and management, lacked inspection and supervision, and allowed violations of regulations on management and use of the school's budget, finance, and assets.

The shortcomings and violations of the Party Committee of Quang Nam Medical College have caused negative public opinion, negatively affecting the prestige and leadership role of the Party Committee.
