Journey of sharing

Xieng My is a remote and extremely disadvantaged commune of Tuong Duong district. After nearly 14 years of implementing the policy of helping poor communes of the Provincial People's Committee, with the motto of "giving fishing rods", Nghe An Newspaper has helped Xieng My commune in many forms such as: building a "Breeding Cow Bank" for poor households; supporting seedlings to help people eliminate mixed gardens, plant fruit trees, and develop household economy ; giving thousands of gifts to support poor households on the occasion of Lunar New Year; mobilizing businesses inside and outside the province to support the commune in eliminating thatched houses.

In addition, the Newspaper also supported the People's Committee of Xieng My commune to purchase equipment: computers, printers, photocopiers; called for and mobilized funds to buy blankets, warm clothes, school equipment for students in the commune such as: 50 bunk beds, freezers, large rice cookers... The Youth Union of Nghe An Newspaper also has many effective youth programs and activities here, such as helping a student in the area with difficult circumstances to excel in their studies.

Thanks to that companionship, Xieng My commune has gradually "changed its skin". The most encouraging thing is that the economic and social life of Xieng My commune's people is increasingly improving. As of the first 6 months of 2025, the commune's poverty rate has decreased to 21.46%; near-poor households are 18.99%; and well-off households account for 59.56%.

There are many models such as breeding cows, growing fruit trees with the help of Nghe An Newspaper and businesses and units that are promoting high economic efficiency. Thanks to that, the average income of people in Xieng My commune has increased to nearly 30 million VND/person/year. It can be said that every change of the commune has the companionship of the Newspaper.

After more than 2 years of implementing the program to eliminate mixed gardens, with more than 2,000 seedlings donated by Nghe An Newspaper and other units, many gardens in Xieng My commune have now truly "put on a new coat" - lush green with varieties of trees stretching out branches and bearing fruit.

Ms. Vi Van Bay in Phay village, Xieng My commune happily shared: “My family received support from the commune to pilot the planting of Thai jackfruit. After receiving the trees, the technical staff also came to the village to instruct on how to plant and care for them. Now the jackfruit has produced fruit, traders come to the garden to buy it for 20,000 VND/kg, I am so happy!”

Giving seedlings is not only a material gift, but also a practical encouragement for people to boldly renovate their mixed gardens, aiming to develop the family economy, gradually improving the quality of life. This is also the way Nghe An Newspaper and its partners help the locality get closer to the goal of building a new countryside, and further develop fruit tree growing models towards sustainable and long-term commodities.

The Youth Union of Nghe An Newspaper in collaboration with Tha Do Border Guard Station, Technical and Off-line Department, Provincial Police, Nghe An DCI Group and Thien An Gia Joint Stock Company jointly presented 180 gifts to people in Tha Do village (Ky Son) and Na Muong village (Noong Het). Each gift worth 350,000 VND includes: rice, salt, fish sauce, dried fish and other necessities. Through these activities, Nghe An Newspaper hopes to contribute to bringing a warm spring full of hope to families in difficult circumstances.

Each page of the newspaper becomes a bridge of love

Not only providing material support, journalists at Nghe An Newspaper also utilize the power of the pen to act as a bridge of compassion, helping the less fortunate receive attention and sharing from the community.

Like the case of Ms. Truong Thi Chung's family in Tho Hop commune, Quy Hop district - both husband and wife and their young son have cancer. The family's already difficult situation has become even more dire. After Nghe An Newspaper published the story in May 2025, many benefactors joined hands to help. To date, her family has received nearly 250 million VND in support.

Ms. Truong Thi Chung was moved to express her gratitude to Nghe An Newspaper and the kind-hearted people who gave her more motivation and created a solid foundation for her and her family to firmly fight the deadly disease.

Reporter Thu Huong (Media Department, Nghe An Newspaper) confided: "Being a journalist is not only about writing news, but also about the responsibility of sharing and connecting love with lives that need to be heard. On every trip to a difficult area, I also ask and find out information about situations that need help to encourage the spirit, connect, and spread sharing in the community"...

This June, the Newspaper also mobilized businesses to support the construction of 5 gratitude houses for poor households in the province (worth 60 million VND/house) and awarded 20 scholarships to poor students who have overcome difficulties (each worth 1 million VND).

The charity journey of Nghe An Newspaper does not stop at numbers or places, but continues to be written by ordinary, sincere people. Each article, each gift, each trip is a mark of humanity, gentle but profound.

Nghe An Newspaper always puts responsibility to the community first. From 2023 to now, the total value of charitable activities that Nghe An Newspaper and accompanying businesses, organizations and individuals have called for and donated has reached nearly 10 billion VND.

  • Presented nearly 2,000 Tet gifts to poor households across the province, with a total value of nearly 1 billion VND, contributing to bringing a warmer Spring to the less fortunate.
  • Support the construction of 12 sturdy houses of gratitude for poor households.
  • Regularly call for and donate necessities, equipment, and household items to schools and people in disadvantaged areas, especially those affected by natural disasters and floods.
