Julian Alvarez is a potential target for Liverpool. |
According to The Times , Atletico Madrid's board have informed Liverpool that Julian Alvarez will stay at the La Liga club this summer. Atletico have no intention of selling the Argentine striker despite receiving a record offer.
Alvarez's future at Atletico Madrid was unclear earlier this summer, despite scoring 29 goals in all competitions last season. Liverpool are rumoured to be considering a £85m-plus bid to bring him back to the Premier League.
Coach Arne Slot is determined to upgrade his squad to stay competitive with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, and he rates Alvarez highly, a player who has proven his goalscoring ability in both England and Spain.
However, Atletico still see Alvarez as the future of the club. Coach Simeone even informed Atletico's board that he could leave if the club sold the Argentine striker.
Atletico and Liverpool have also been negotiating a deal for left-back Andy Robertson. With left-back Milos Kerkez set to join Anfield from Bournemouth, Liverpool are likely to let Robertson join Atletico.
