According to the Department of Health, at 10:53 p.m. on March 30, three students from Nguyen Van Troi High School (Nha Trang City) were hospitalized at Khanh Hoa Hospital after eating noodles and chicken rice from a street vendor across from the school. The three students were hospitalized with symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, and poor respiratory function.

As of March 31, three more patients were admitted to Khanh Hoa Provincial Hospital with suspected poisoning symptoms.

Tam Tri Hospital also had 2 patients admitted, 1 patient at Yersin Nha Trang General Hospital and 1 patient at Hospital 87 with the same symptoms.

According to a representative of the Khanh Hoa Province Department of Health, it was initially determined that these students bought noodles and chicken rice sold in front of the school gate to eat, each meal costing an average of 10,000-20,000 VND.

So far, 3 households have been found cooking food and selling it at the gate of Nguyen Van Troi High School. Authorities have worked with 1 of the 3 households in Van Thang Ward and taken samples for testing.

The Department of Health also recommends that parents and students limit eating snacks sold at street vendors in front of school gates. These places are very difficult to control food safety and hygiene issues. In addition, schools need to strengthen canteens to meet the needs of students, because eating and drinking are indispensable needs for them.

On the same day, the leader of Khanh Hoa Department of Health said that the provincial Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety and Hygiene has just issued an official dispatch on strengthening the responsibility of state management of food safety and hygiene.

The move was made after the chicken rice poisoning incident at Tram Anh restaurant on Ba Trieu street, Nha Trang city, left 369 people hospitalized.
