This is an important sporting event, continuing to affirm the role of the National Golf Championship, the tournament with the longest tradition and largest scale in Vietnamese golf.
The 2025 Gia Lai National Golf Championship will take place from August 19 to 23 at FLC Golf Links Quy Nhon, bringing together 150 athletes. The athletes will compete in a 72-hole stroke play format (4 rounds, each round of 18 holes). After the first 36 holes, the Organizing Committee will cut and select the 50 male golfers and 12 female golfers with the best results for the last two rounds. The winner is the golfer with the lowest gross score after 4 rounds.
The total prize fund this year is 1.2 billion VND, of which 1 billion VND is for the men's division and 200 million VND is for the women's division. The men's division champion receives 180 million VND, while the women's division champion receives 60 million VND.
To encourage sustainable development, the Organizing Committee continues to waive entry fees for the defending champions and members of the national golf team, while reducing fees by 50% for athletes under 18 years old.
Speaking at the press conference, journalist Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper and co-head of the Organizing Committee, affirmed that the National Golf Championship is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the Vietnamese golf system. This year's tournament is even more meaningful as it takes place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2, and to celebrate the establishment of the new Gia Lai province.
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province, Nguyen Van Y, said: “Organizing the tournament is extremely important for Gia Lai after the merger. This is not only a national sporting event but also an opportunity to promote the new Gia Lai province, a new development space, in harmony between the plateau and the sea. We wish to introduce to you a dynamic, creative Gia Lai, an attractive destination.”
Not only does it foster young talent, the national golf championship is also an important launching pad for the national team. In 2023, for the first time, Vietnamese golf stepped onto the podium of SEA Games glory with achievements: Individual gold medal Le Khanh Hung, individual bronze medal Nguyen Anh Minh, and team silver medal with the contributions of Doan Uy and Dang Minh... This year's tournament is expected to select outstanding athletes for the Vietnamese golf team to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.
