“10am Sunday” – “Slow Living” Writings by Journalist To Phan

The essay book “10am Sunday” by journalist To Phan was officially launched on the morning of September 11, in a neat, cozy ceremony, with the participation of many journalists, colleagues, friends, and people who love journalist To Phan.

Attending the book launch were Mr. Pham Quang Nghi, former Politburo member, former Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, also the teacher, brother and boss of journalist To Phan; Mr. Le Manh Hung, former Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, journalist Ho Quang Loi, former Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association , along with Editors-in-Chief, Deputy Editors-in-Chief, journalists of many periods, friends, colleagues and family of journalist To Phan.

Slices of life

“10am Sunday” includes small stories that journalist To Phan has collected and distilled throughout his journey of journalism, traveling, seeing, thinking and writing, from memories of difficult and arduous years, to familiar faces in his family, friends, colleagues, people who left a deep impression on him, and also stories about urban life, the author's thoughts and concerns about modern social issues.

The book consists of 4 parts: “Memory Land” with memories of the past, of childhood, of memories that have contributed to forming a person; “The place that always waits for us to return” includes stories about family, about love - the bond that connects people in all circumstances; “Flavor of life” with slices of everyday life; and “Slices” with the author's perspective on modern social issues.

The book seems to lead readers into a space of inner silence, where there is no noise, no rush, but only the gentleness and peace of "slow living".

The writings also have a pause, when the author spends pages writing thoughtfully, slowly, recounting happy and sad memories in his life journey, sharing his views on life, the value of life as well as humanity through the twists and turns of life.

I wrote this essay to express my gratitude.

Journalist To Phan

Sharing at the launch, journalist To Phan said that he wrote this essay book to express his gratitude to those who have left their mark on his journey as a journalist, those who have helped and accompanied him through the most difficult times, those who have trained and supported him throughout his career. This is also the third book after nearly 19 years by author To Phan.

Ms. Pham Thi Nguyet Anh, Deputy Director of Dan Tri Publishing House, the publisher of the book, shared that this work not only records the author's career journey, but also contains emotional slices of life and current events.

With this book, journalist To Phan not only looks at current events with his professional eyes, but also records them with all his heart. The book is like a publication in which every reader, friend, and colleague can see their own image.

As the direct editor of the book, senior editor Vo Thi Kim Thanh said that journalist To Phan's book carries images of the entire Vietnamese society, the northern countryside during the war, society before the renovation period, the difficult life during the subsidy period, as well as the country in renovation.

Ms. Vo Thi Kim Thanh also commented that journalist To Phan's family is also a very typical family image in Vietnamese society. And journalist To Phan, if viewed from the perspective of a family, a son, a husband, a father, it is very difficult to do what he does.
