The sound of the stream, the colors of the forest
From the center of Ba Chuc commune, it only takes about 10 minutes by motorbike to reach O Da stream. This stream is hidden at the foot of Dai mountain. Local people said that the name "O Da" is a combination of two words "O" and "Da", in which "O" means stream. "O Da" refers to the stream flowing through rocky crevices, rapids...
When coming here, anyone will be surprised by the wild beauty of the mountains and forests combined with the gentle, poetic beauty of the peaceful stream. O Da Stream is formed from small streams from the top of Dai Mountain, flowing under the lush green forests, through many mossy rapids to form a stream about 6km long. The sound of the stream sometimes murmurs, sometimes rushes like a waterfall from the upstream, creating a harmony that is both gentle and powerful. The slope is not high, so exploring O Da Stream is not too difficult. However, many slippery roads and bumpy rocks can cause falls if you are not careful.
O Da Stream is not only beautiful in itself, but also more beautiful because of the scenery on both sides of the stream - where it flows through. The dirt road leading to the stream is lined with bamboo trees and mango gardens with large canopy covering. This stream also "pleases" visitors with many open spaces with large rocks - where visitors can camp, organize small relaxing parties, enjoy "specialties" such as mountain crabs and mountain snails - famous dishes of the Bay Nui region.
In the summer, the water dries up, exposing many large and small rocks of all kinds in the O Da stream. In the rainy season, the stream begins to take shape clearly. The best time to visit is from the 7th to the 9th lunar month, when the water flows a lot. People, especially young people, like to bring food and drinks to bathe and play. The stream is not deep, and in some sections the water flow is quite weak, so children can bathe, quite safely.
Bustling weekend
In recent years, O Da stream has become a familiar check-in spot for young people, an ideal destination for those who love backpacking. Coming here, visitors can immerse themselves in the quiet space of the mountains and forests; immerse themselves in the cool water; listen to the "murmur" sounds of the stream, the sounds of the mountains and forests mixed with the rustling wind, creating a rare relaxing space.
Huynh Minh Tu - a tourist from Phu Tan commune shared: "I saw my friends on Facebook sharing a lot about O Da stream, I thought it was beautiful so I came to visit once. I tried the chicken hotpot and mountain crab here, it was really delicious."
During the rainy season, people in Ba Chuc commune and neighboring communes often invite each other to the stream to immerse themselves in the cool water. Enjoying the specialties of the mountains and forests, Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, a resident of Chau Phu commune, said: “My friends have recommended it many times, but this is the first time I have come here. The scenery is so beautiful, the stream is cool, I can walk forever without getting tired. When I return, I will introduce this stream to my friends and relatives.”
Expectations for tourism development
Although O Da stream does not have any tourism projects, every summer, hundreds of tourists come to visit. From this reality, the local government is interested in calling for and attracting investment to form an eco-tourism and experience destination. On that basis, it promises to contribute another interesting destination, helping tourists have more options during their sightseeing and vacation.
However, the immediate issue is to ensure environmental hygiene. Local authorities will arrange trash bins along the stream banks so that visitors can comply with public hygiene.
The tourism potential of O Da stream is still like a “sleeping beauty”, waiting to be awakened. Local people also expect to soon have investment projects and open tours to create job opportunities, increase income, and contribute to exploiting the available potential of their homeland.
