Dong Nai University: Taking drastic action to surpass ourselves

Dong Nai University (Tam Hiep ward) is being prepared by the province to create all favorable conditions in terms of policies, financial resources and human resources to soon turn this school into a key unit in high-quality vocational training in the province.

The investment and development of Dong Nai University into a key vocational training school of the province has been included in the Draft Political Report submitted to the 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030. This is a great political determination of the province, but also a responsibility placed on the shoulders of the staff and lecturers regarding the spirit of solidarity, innovative thinking and practical action.

It takes a new mindset to break through.

After 15 years of upgrading to Dong Nai University, with the foundation of the former Dong Nai Pedagogical College, up to now, this school still faces many difficulties and great challenges. The initial goals from the day of upgrading to a university, including the goal of becoming a high-quality multidisciplinary university, the leading scientific research center of the province, are still unfinished, despite the province's attention and great support. Not only that, the process of operating and developing the school has also left many valuable lessons on personnel work, investment and use of state resources.

Dr. Dang Anh Tuan, Vice Principal, in charge of Dong Nai University, said: In the past time, the University Council and the Board of Directors have focused on reviewing all operating conditions of the university, from which they have built new steps. The university has also frankly acknowledged many weaknesses, shortcomings, and limitations, such as administration, human resources, facilities, application of information technology and digital transformation, scientific research, and international cooperation. These are all very important factors for the development of a university, which need to be paid attention to and developed synchronously.

Sharing specifically about the above difficulties, Dr. Dang Anh Tuan said: Due to the failure to create a stable working environment and appropriate remuneration, Dong Nai University has witnessed the phenomenon of "brain drain", when many staff and lecturers with doctoral degrees and associate professors asked to transfer jobs. This leads to a lack of staff for management and teaching, affecting the sustainable development of the school. Even within the University Council, the Board of Directors as well as the staff of departments and faculties are also unstable. In fact, there is still a lack of management staff in many departments and faculties.

After being upgraded to a university in 2010, Dong Nai University has received a large investment in facilities, in which the province assigned the facilities of 2 secondary schools in Tam Hiep ward to the school. The school has also built more lecture halls, libraries, gymnasiums, etc. However, up to now, many previous and later investment projects have become outdated, degraded, and not worthy of a university. Compared to private universities in the province or in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai University's facilities are quite far behind.

Shaping the new Dong Nai University

The Board of Directors and the Board of Management of Dong Nai University are determined to consolidate and develop the school with a new aspiration, which is to become a key school in training human resources not only for the province but also for the Southeast region. Not stopping at the current scale of over 5,000 students, the school aims to have a training scale of up to 20,000 students by 2030. Not only upgrading the current facilities, the school will open a second campus in Dong Xoai and Binh Phuoc wards to serve human resource training and socio-economic development for the province.

Dr. Nguyen Van Toan, Chairman of the Dong Nai University Council, said: In preparation for a new development phase, although the province has not yet approved a policy to attract human resources with doctoral degrees or higher to work at Dong Nai University, up to now, at least 10 people with doctoral degrees or higher have expressed their willingness to return to work at the university when called by the Council and the Board of Directors. Therefore, the university will be determined to quickly complete the project to attract human resources; at the same time, consolidate the system of departments, faculties, and centers, thereby improving the quality of teaching and scientific research.

According to the Standing Committee Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son, the province's demand for high-quality human resources is very large, especially in the coming period. Investing in Dong Nai University for breakthrough development is very necessary, because the province needs to train and foster a large number of new teachers. Besides, businesses are also in great need of a highly qualified and skilled workforce. Therefore, the province is ready to prioritize all aspects for Dong Nai University to develop. First of all, it is to solve the problem of high-quality training human resources and strong digital transformation.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs Ha Thanh Tung, if Dong Nai University wants to develop, it must first pay special attention to the factors of internal solidarity, unanimity from top to bottom, and smooth communication. These are limitations and weaknesses that have been occurring for a long time at the school and need to be completely overcome.

According to comrade Ton Ngoc Hanh, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council: The Provincial Party Committee has had very drastic new policies, demonstrating a long-term vision for the development of Dong Nai University. The remaining issue is that the school must urgently complete the project on attracting highly qualified human resources and the project on job positions. This is the solution for the school to have a stable, high-quality team of managers and lecturers. It will be difficult to solve the problem of improving the quality of human resource training, while the school itself is lacking high-quality management and teaching human resources.

Comrade TON NGOC HANH, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council:

Must maintain internal solidarity for Dong Nai University to develop to its full potential.

Each cadre, party member, lecturer, especially the leader must be a shining example of solidarity, unity, saying goes with doing, absolutely complying with the Party's regulations, democratic centralism, openness and transparency. Clearly define the role of the Party in professional activities, absolutely do not underestimate the leadership role of the Party Committee in the school's activities.
