For a long time, Thai Nguyen has been known as the "tea capital" of the country - a place with endless tea hills, embracing the foothills, covering the fertile midland lands. Not only a traditional crop, tea in Thai Nguyen is growing to become an economic pillar - opening a sustainable direction for agriculture, for farmers, and especially for ethnic minority women in this land.
Tan Cuong tea, La Bang tea, Trai Cai tea, Dinh Hoa tea... have created the Thai Nguyen tea brand with the sweet aroma of young rice and the refreshing aftertaste. Each young tea bud is carefully picked by the hands of Mong, Dao, Tay, Nung women... not only an agricultural product, but also the crystallization of labor, culture and the desire to develop the economy.
Nowadays, when tea production is no longer simply planting - picking - selling, but is shifting to a closed process, deep processing, and traceability, it is also the time when ethnic women in Thai Nguyen have more opportunities to change their lives. They are not only farmers, but also active participants in the tea value chain: from production, processing, to business.
Many tea cooperatives owned by women have been established, creating stable livelihoods for hundreds of local female workers.
By joining the Phu Dat Agricultural Cooperative (Binh Thanh Commune, Thai Nguyen Province) directed by Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet, ethnic minority women not only have a job, but also a door to a new future: a stable income, a position in the family and in the community. Most importantly, they can live with their own values, in the midst of a growing green tea region.
