After more than 10 days of enrollment, nearly 80% of students of National Economics University have been signed to meet English output standards.

The Director of the National Economics University (NEU) has just signed a decision to recognize the achievement of foreign language output standards for nearly 7,000 new full-time university students after more than 10 days of enrollment, accounting for about 80% (an increase of 5% compared to last year).

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Dr. Le Anh Duc - head of training management department of National Economics University (NEU) - said that of more than 8,200 new full-time university students this year, about 80% of the new students have international English certificates, equivalent to IELTS 5.5.

Of the nearly 7,000 new students who have just been recognized by the school as meeting English output standards upon enrollment, about 96% of students achieved IELTS 6.0 or higher, and about 82% achieved 6.5 or higher.

The school's current output standard is 5.5 for the standard program; high-quality, application-oriented programs are 6.0. For the group taught in English and English language, it is 6.5.

Previously, the number of candidates with IELTS certificates and other foreign language certificates applying for admission to the National Economics University was recorded at about 22,000 (an increase of nearly 50% compared to last year).

According to Mr. Duc, the number of new students meeting English output standards right from the beginning of their studies reflects that in addition to core academic competencies, English skills at the National Economics University have been raised to a higher level.

"This helps students easily access the English learning materials system, thereby contributing to improving the quality of training... In addition, it helps the school more conveniently implement the Project to develop English as the second language in the National Economics University," said Mr. Duc.

Previously in July, the National Economics University issued a project to develop English as a second language in universities. The specific goal of the project is to have 100% of training programs have at least 30% of subjects taught in English from 2028.

In particular, from 2030, students graduating from the National Economics University must achieve a minimum English level of B2 or equivalent to IELTS 6.0. The school currently requires a minimum IELTS 5.5, with programs in Vietnamese.
