Awakening and realizing the aspiration to escape poverty

Even a small opportunity can change a person’s fate, especially for those in particularly difficult circumstances. That opportunity is the timely support of the State, along with the spirit of “mutual love and support” of the social community. Many poor and near-poor households in the province, when receiving support, have made efforts to realize the opportunity in developing their family economy, gradually stabilizing their lives and escaping poverty sustainably.

The road to Pac Ngoi village, Ba Be commune is concreted, creating favorable conditions for socio -economic development and improving people's lives.

Give the poor a chance

Sharing with us about the opportunity to escape poverty, Mr. Hua Van Tuan, Nam Yen village, Cam Giang commune, confided: From 50 million VND borrowed from the Social Policy Bank, I planted nearly 1 hectare of forest and renovated the fields to grow rice and corn. After only a few years, my family escaped poverty. Not only did we pay off the loan, but our family also had capital to open a forest product processing facility, creating new jobs for 5 workers with an average income of 10 million VND/person/month.

Mr. Tuan is one of nearly 20,000 families that have escaped poverty in the province in the past 3 years (including Thai Nguyen province and the old Bac Kan province). Accordingly, from 2022 to the end of 2024, the number of poor households has decreased from more than 42,900 households to more than 23,000 households. It is expected that in 2025, the whole province will reduce nearly 3,500 more poor households.

To achieve the desired results, in 2025, especially after the merger, Thai Nguyen province will continue to invest in a focused manner, prioritizing particularly difficult areas. In particular, focusing on investing in building infrastructure, supporting livelihoods, improving production capacity for people, creating more new jobs, and focusing on the quality of education and vocational training.

Sharing with us, Mr. Sam Van Pai, Dong Tam hamlet, Phu Luong commune, said: Thanks to participating in a training course on breeding goats, from 20 goats supported by the State at the end of 2024, up to now, my goats are multiplying. I am confident to see that the opportunity to escape poverty is opening up very soon.

Mr. Trieu Van Lieu, Khe Cai hamlet, Nghinh Tuong commune, happily boasted: In 2023, I received support from the State to study short-term mechanical engineering. When I returned, I borrowed money from relatives to open a facility to weld and assemble iron and zinc frames. Thanks to the new profession, my family has escaped poverty.

Knowing how to take advantage of opportunities for economic development, many families have had a stable life, no longer having to worry about food and clothing, and their children have better conditions for education. Mrs. La Thi Giap, 90 years old, Khuoi Cuong residential area, Bac Kan ward, shared: I have witnessed many historical periods of the country, and I am glad that in recent years, people's lives have improved significantly. Many families have been able to buy cars and build high-rise buildings. Poor households still have motorbikes, televisions, mobile phones, and rice cooked in electric cookers...

Eliminate the mindset of waiting and relying on others.

With support of 15 million VND from the Provincial Gardening Association, Mr. Hau Van Dat's family in Dong Luong hamlet, Quang Son commune, invested in raising free-range chickens and has now escaped poverty.

We brought the story of Mr. Giap to the faraway Dao land called Phieng Lam, Yen Thinh commune. Mr. Hoang Huu Hien, the village chief, was very happy and said: A few years ago, whenever it rained or was windy, the road to the village was very difficult to travel. Now the road is concrete, the isolation is gone, and the number of poor households has also decreased rapidly, from 100% of the households in the village being poor, to now 15/42 poor households are being supported with capital to develop their family economy and techniques in livestock and farming.

Up to now, 100% of the northern communes of the province have asphalt and concrete roads. From the State's support capital and the people's counterpart capital, concrete roads have been extended to most of the centers of the villages and hamlets in the highlands, remote areas, and especially difficult areas of the province. Convenient transportation has created a driving force for the lands to "change their skin". Agricultural products of the people have the opportunity to access large markets. Accordingly, the value of agricultural products is higher.

By mobilizing all resources to support poor and near-poor households to overcome the minimum living standards and access basic social services according to multidimensional poverty standards, in the past 4 years, Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces have mobilized more than 10,000 billion VND from the State budget and other legal resources for poverty reduction. From these sources of capital, there have been hundreds of models and projects to diversify livelihoods and develop poverty reduction models with thousands of poor households receiving support.

Also during this period, hundreds of workers from poor households, near-poor households, and households that have just escaped poverty have been supported with vocational training; tens of thousands of workers have been consulted and supported with employment. In the two old provinces of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan, about 150,000 workers have been provided with new jobs, of which about 20,000 workers have been supported to work abroad for a limited period. In the past two years alone, the whole province has had more than 8,800 cases of workers who are eligible to go abroad to work.

By effectively implementing programs and projects, Thai Nguyen province has quickly eliminated the mindset of waiting and relying on a part of the people. From there, it encourages each person, especially those in poor and near-poor households, to have the will to rise up in life.

Talking to us, Ms. Trieu Thi Vang, Toan Thang village, Bach Thong commune, choked up with emotion: This August, my family moved into a new house. The house was built with government support money and contributions from relatives. Having a solid house gives me more opportunities to escape poverty.

In September, the day when all people send their children to school, I would like to share some good news: On the occasion of the opening of the new school year 2025 - 2026, businesses and philanthropists have awarded hundreds of scholarships and gifts to children from poor households who have overcome difficulties to excel in their studies. This is also one of the effective investment solutions, encouraging children from poor households to excel.
