On June 10, PEOPLE reported that former Miss Venezuela and veteran presenter Patricia Fuenmayor passed away at the age of 51 after more than a year and a half of battling cancer.

The Despierta América program - where she used to work - shared: "Our family has just lost a precious member. Patricia was a passionate, professional and dedicated woman - a friend and a brave colleague in the fight against illness."
Many colleagues and celebrities sent their condolences after the news of her passing was announced. Former MC Maity Interiano emotionally wrote: “Rest in peace! It was an honor to know and work with you. May you rest in peace in heaven.”
Patricia was a top 8 Miss Venezuela 1997 and was crowned Miss South America (Reina Sudamericana) that same year. She then turned to journalism and soon made her mark as a presenter on major television networks such as Venevisión, Teledeportes and E! Latin America.

In 2015, after the events in Venezuela, Patricia immigrated to the United States. In New York, she worked for Univision and hosted Al Despertar, before joining the Despierta América crew, where she was loved by audiences for her inspiring presentation and approachable demeanor.
