Efficiency of producing high quality 3-line hybrid rice

The production linkage model of 3-line hybrid rice ADI No. 9 in Minh Nghia commune (Nong Cong) gives high yield.

In the spring crop of 2025, ADI Agricultural Investment, Trade and Development Joint Stock Company cooperated with agricultural service cooperatives to plant 200 hectares of ADI No. 9 hybrid rice in the communes of Trung Thanh, Te Thang, Te Loi, Te Nong, Minh Nghia, Truong Son, Truong Minh, Van Hoa, Van Thien, Thang Long, Thang Binh, Cong Liem (Nong Cong). People took care of the rice according to the technical process according to the company's training, so the yield reached more than 8 tons/ha. Director of Minh Nghia Agricultural Service Cooperative Nguyen Huu Thinh said: “Through the planting seasons, it has been shown that the 3-line hybrid rice variety ADI No. 9 is a rice variety with a short growing period, good growth and development ability, strong tillering, even and concentrated flowering. The ADI No. 9 rice variety is less susceptible to pests and diseases than some other local rice varieties, so the cost of using pesticides is lower; it can be planted in both crops/year, with wide adaptability. Thanks to the linkage between production and consumption, the economic efficiency is very clear, each hectare increases by 2 - 3 million VND compared to the production of conventional rice varieties”.

In recent years, the agricultural sector and localities in the province have actively encouraged people to convert hybrid rice varieties into production. In the spring crop of 2025, farmers in localities in the province have planted hybrid rice varieties accounting for 59.4%, pure rice accounting for 40.6% of the total rice area. The expansion of the production area of high-yield, high-quality 3-line hybrid rice combined with scientific and technical advances has been contributing to improving the productivity and output of rice in the whole province.

Director of Thanh Hoa branch - ADI Agricultural Investment, Trade and Development Joint Stock Company Nguyen Ngoc Hoan said: “3-line hybrid rice is a rice variety crossbred from 3 different rice lines, with the purpose of creating an F1 hybrid rice variety with the strengths of 2 parent lines. Thanks to that, 3-line hybrid rice varieties often have superior quality compared to the original pure rice variety. Normally, hybrid rice yields 15-20% higher than mass rice varieties, this is due to the combination of the strengths of both parents, so the plants grow well and have outstanding productivity. In the spring crop of 2025, the company has linked to produce nearly 500 hectares of rice in Thanh Hoa province. The company not only invests in seeds and fertilizers for farmers but also transfers technology, creating stable output for products so that farmers can confidently participate in production links".

In order to expand the area of high-yield, high-quality 3-line hybrid rice in production, the agricultural sector has annually created favorable conditions for seed production companies to build models for testing new hybrid rice varieties in the province. Thereby, evaluating the results of testing new hybrid rice varieties with high yield, good quality and suitable for soil and climate conditions in the regions of the province and adding them to the province's rice variety set. This is also the basis for the agricultural sector to select the best seed sources, gradually replacing pure rice varieties with low yield and quality, poor resistance to pests and diseases and low economic efficiency.

In addition, the agricultural sector recommends that people do not use hybrid rice varieties that are not included in the structure and have not been tested and verified to avoid losses in production. Along with building models to test new hybrid rice varieties, to improve rice production efficiency, localities in the province are actively building concentrated hybrid rice production areas in the organic direction, gradually building rice brands in localities. At the same time, localities guide people to apply the crop pest management programs "IPM", "IHPM", "ICM" and apply mechanization, intensive hybrid rice cultivation measures in the direction of organic and high technology.
