Bao Loc 2 Bridge on Bao Loc Pass is under construction, repair and upgrading. |
During the peak summer tourist season, National Highway 20 – especially Bao Loc Pass – becomes overloaded as thousands of vehicles continuously pour into Da Lat. The main vehicles are private cars and tourist vehicles, causing traffic pressure to increase dramatically. Along with that, Bao Loc 2 Bridge on Bao Loc Pass is being upgraded and repaired, causing prolonged congestion.
Faced with the above situation, the traffic police force of Lam Dong Provincial Police, especially the Madaguoi Traffic Police Station, is working day and night to regulate traffic and ensure safety for tourists and residents.

According to information from the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Construction, the project to repair and upgrade Bao Loc 2 Bridge on Bao Loc Pass is invested by Road Management Area IV (Vietnam Road Administration) to widen the bridge and repair the road surface, ensuring long-term smoothness and safety. However, during the construction process, the roadway was narrowed to one direction, forcing vehicles to wait in turns to go up or down the pass.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Thu - Head of Madaguoi Traffic Police Station, Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Province Police said while on duty directing traffic flow at the construction site of Bao Loc 2 Bridge: "The number of tourist cars, trucks and passenger cars increases dramatically in the summer, especially on weekends. Just a small incident, such as a broken car or an inexperienced driver, can cause traffic jams that last for kilometers."
Also according to Lieutenant Colonel Thu, on the afternoon of June 6, 2025, a serious traffic jam occurred on this road, causing vehicles to be backed up for more than 10 km on both sides of the pass.

To minimize congestion and ensure safety, Lam Dong traffic police have deployed a remote traffic diversion plan, closely coordinating with construction units and local authorities. Working groups from the Madaguoi Traffic Police Station are on duty 24/7 at “hot spots” such as the Bao Loc 2 bridge construction area, Loc Chau intersection and dangerous steep curves on the pass.
Senior Lieutenant Duong Thai An, a young soldier of the Madaguoi Traffic Police Station, shared: Regardless of the weather, the traffic police officers still persistently regulate traffic on the pass. There are days when it rains heavily, water flows over the road, but we cannot leave our positions. If we are even a little negligent, the risk of accidents or traffic jams will increase.
Not only directing traffic, the traffic police force also supports drivers and tourists in many unexpected situations. Some cases of damaged vehicles in the middle of the pass were helped, repaired and moved safely.
To ensure traffic safety and order during the peak summer tourist season, the Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Province has implemented many synchronous measures. In addition to arranging forces on duty at checkpoints, traffic police also use surveillance cameras and information provided by drivers to update traffic conditions and guide drivers to choose appropriate travel times. Signs and barriers are also placed at construction sites to warn from afar.

In addition, propaganda work has been stepped up. Traffic police officers coordinate with transport companies and local authorities to organize traffic law propaganda sessions, advising drivers not to overtake recklessly, to obey the speed limit and to keep a safe distance when going through passes.
“We pay special attention to drivers from other places who are not familiar with the terrain of Bao Loc Pass. Many cases are reminded instead of being fined to create consensus,” said Lieutenant Colonel Thu.
Lam Dong Traffic Police Department also requested the construction unit to speed up the progress, especially completing important items before the rainy season. "Bao Loc Pass is already difficult to travel, now it is under construction, if not completed soon, it will cause difficulties for both tourists and local people" - Lieutenant Colonel Thu emphasized.
The peak tourist season is also the rainy and stormy season, and Lam Dong traffic police are still fulfilling their role as “pass guards”, helping to keep traffic on National Highway 20 running smoothly. However, to completely resolve the congestion, closer coordination between authorities is needed, especially in speeding up the construction progress and upgrading traffic infrastructure.
