After the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) canceled the results of the matches in Group A, the Vietnam U21 women's team from the round of 16 had to go down to the 17th-24th place match against the Egypt U21 women's team.
Overcoming the sadness from the incident, coach Nguyen Trong Linh's students had a convincing victory against the representative from North Africa.
In set 1, Quynh Huong, Anh Thao and Phuong Quynh played very well, creating a safe gap and helping U21 Vietnam win 25-16.
Although Egypt led 1-7, then 2-9 in the beginning of set 2, the Vietnamese girls played resiliently, equalizing the score (11-11) before winning dramatically 26-24.
The efforts of the Egyptian U21 women's team helped them win set 3 with a score of 25-22.
But in set 4, the Vietnamese U21 women's players started strongly, creating a point difference before winning 25-20.
In this match, Anh Thao and Thuy Linh were the two players who scored the most points for U21 Vietnam, with 21 and 20 points respectively. Following were Quynh Huong (16 points) and Phuong Quynh (11 points).
Defeating Egypt 3-1 (25-16, 26-24, 22-25, 25-20), the Vietnam U21 women's team entered the 17th-20th place match, meeting the winner of the match between Chile and Mexico on August 15.
