In the context of the increasingly harsh US job market, winning an internship at "big guys" like JPMorgan Chase, Meta or Microsoft is unthinkable for many people.

However, two Vietnamese students - Pham Dang Hung and Ong Gia Phuoc - not only did that, but also joined hands to build a united community of Vietnamese international students, together conquering career heights in a foreign land.

Pham Dang Hung: Overcoming barriers to reach the world's top 1 investment bank

Pham Dang Hung - a second-year finance student at DePauw University (USA) has just won an internship at JPMorgan Chase - one of the largest investment banks in the world with a fierce competition rate of less than 1%.

This achievement is all the more impressive because Hung did not study at a "target school" university - a group of universities that are often prioritized for recruitment by large corporations. Right from his first year, Hung took online courses, studied for the CFA certificate, and competed in international financial competitions. Hung also made it to the final round of a financial competition organized by Harvard University.

The library is Pham Dang Hung's favorite place and he always goes there whenever he has time.

However, the application process was not easy. Hung lacked interview experience and had been rejected many times. But thanks to persistent practice - some weeks practicing interviews up to 2 hours/day - Hung gradually improved his skills and received invitations not only from JPMorgan but also from AXA (the largest insurance group in France).

Not stopping there, Hung continued to be accepted into an international investment bank for a third-year summer internship in the Sales and Trading position - a field usually reserved for students from top universities. This means that Hung will soon have an internship position for the summer of 2026 in Manhattan (USA), the global financial center.

Mr. Gia Phuoc: From the beginning of programming to the first steps to Microsoft

The story of Gia Phuoc, a third-year Computer Science student, is also a journey of overcoming hardships. Without a solid programming foundation when he first entered university, Phuoc self-studied algorithms, built personal projects, and proactively connected with seniors to learn. In his second year, after submitting hundreds of job applications, Phuoc was continuously rejected. However, he did not give up and eventually received an internship offer at Meta (Facebook), as a software engineer for the infrastructure team.

Mr. Gia Phuoc always exchanges information with Vietnamese international students, helping them feel confident in a foreign environment.

After his initial success, Phuoc continued to apply regularly throughout his third year, learning new technologies and practicing solving algorithms every day. As a result, Phuoc received 6 internship offers from tech giants such as Waymo (owned by Google), Robinhood, DoorDash, Plaid, Valon and Microsoft. Phuoc decided to choose Microsoft because it was suitable for his long-term development orientation and the working environment.

PO Mentorship - Vietnamese international students community supporting each other

In addition to their personal achievements, both Hung and Phuoc actively contribute to the Vietnamese student community in the US through PO Mentorship - a career support project for Vietnamese students pursuing Computer Science and Economics - Finance.

PO Mentorship connects young students with experienced seniors at large corporations, providing guidance, practical knowledge and practical support in the process of preparing documents and job interviews.

“We understand the feeling of being lost when starting out, not knowing who to ask, not knowing where to start. PO Mentorship creates a community with direction, experience and responsibility to help each other," Phuoc and Hung shared.

In the first year, the project supported all students to win internships in the US, built a Vietnamese community to share knowledge and experience...

PO Mentorship wants to contribute to helping the Vietnamese community become stronger like the united communities of India and China, so that Vietnamese students can receive worthy results.
