Shock to Apple

Apple's rating was downgraded to its lowest level since early 2020, a sign of investor caution toward the iPhone maker.

Apple's iPhone 17 launch event took place early in the morning of September 10 (Vietnam time). As rumored, Apple launched the iPhone 17 series along with an ultra-thin version called the iPhone Air. The device costs $1,000 , uses a high-density battery and a new generation processor chip.

However, after the launch, Apple unexpectedly received a shock when its rating was downgraded, a sign of investor caution in the context that the company has significantly underperformed its large-cap technology peers in 2025.

Specifically, according to data compiled by Bloomberg , in this downgrade, Apple's consensus recommendation ratio — an index representing the ratio of buy, hold, and sell ratings — only reached 3.9/5, the lowest since the beginning of 2020.

Just 55% of analysts tracked by Bloomberg recommend buying the stock, a very low ratio among large-cap companies. By comparison, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon all have buy ratings above 90%.

Analyst firm DA Davidson also downgraded Apple shares to "neutral" from "buy," citing a failure to allay concerns about the company's position on artificial intelligence.

“We were initially excited about the prospects for Apple’s role in the AI ecosystem and a potential major upgrade cycle, but it has become clear that neither of those are likely to materialize in the near term,” analyst Gil Luria wrote.

New products, including the ultra-thin iPhone Air, failed to impress investors, Luria said, adding that growth "will remain limited in the current environment."

Phillip Securities was even more pessimistic, predicting that the iPhone maker's shares will fall in the near future.

Apple still maintains a cautious outlook, in part because it has “no significant AI innovation to help address persistent weakness in its China products and market,” according to analyst Helena Wang.
