A retired teacher recently called her best friend to inform her that her daughter had been scammed out of more than 70 million VND by online scammers.

Their trick is to invite "prey" to participate in a 0 VND online shopping promotion program.

The tricks of online scammers are very sophisticated. They constantly launch attractive tricks, following current events. For example, the latest is the Government's policy of giving a gift of "100,000 VND" to each citizen on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2. Their common tricks on this occasion include: sending fake messages or links with the content "receive a gift of 100,000 VND", "fill in information to receive money", "install VNeID to receive gifts"; impersonating officials, police, banks to call and request OTP codes, account information or money transfers for "verification"; creating fanpages, websites impersonating authorities to collect personal data.

This scam "following" the gift-giving policy makes people, especially those lacking technological skills, easily "fall into the trap" when the VNeID electronic identification application is overloaded and inaccessible. After this incident, the management agency needs to have solutions to prevent it from happening again.

According to experts, the rampant cybercrime is a pressing issue. Therefore, in addition to solutions to enhance cyber security by authorities and related organizations, users need to be aware of protecting themselves. The State coordinates with related organizations to step up propaganda work, raising awareness of preventing cyber fraud widely in the community. Warnings need to be carried out regularly on all media channels, especially social networks.

Right at the beginning of this new school year, agencies and organizations need to coordinate with schools to organize propaganda on network security and safety; cybercrime prevention for teachers and students, especially new students. Although still in the busy post-merger period, the authorities of new communes and wards also need to pay attention to propaganda work for local people on preventing and fighting against fraudulent acts of property appropriation in cyberspace.
