Leeds were beaten 2-1 by Man City in Sam Allardyce's first game in charge last weekend, the first time the former England boss has played at home. Allardyce's eight-month reign as Newcastle boss has clearly left few fond memories for the Magpies fans, who were vocal in their criticism of him before kick-off.

Newcastle not yet guaranteed top 4 position

Leeds, in a relegation battle, got off to a flying start. Leeds captain Luke Ayling opened the scoring in the seventh minute of a thrilling encounter with Newcastle. Patrick Bamford missed a penalty that could have put them two up in the 28th minute, before Wilson converted to level the score three minutes later. However, the Eland Road side eventually got a point when Kristensen levelled the score in the 69th minute.

After the goal that brought Leeds a point, the home team ended the match with one less player as defender Junior Firpo was sent off for receiving two yellow cards in the second half's injury time.

Leeds still trying to stay in the league

The point from this game moved Leeds up one place to 18th and are now one point from safety. Sam Allardyce's side travel to West Ham next weekend before hosting Tottenham in their final game of the season. Leeds, winless in seven games, face another tough survival battle after surviving relegation on the final day of last season.

For Newcastle, their bid to qualify for the Champions League through a top-four finish is also faltering. Eddie Howe's side are still third but are just three points ahead of fourth-placed Manchester United and four ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool. The Magpies have played one game more than Manchester United. Newcastle need six points from their final three games against Brighton, Leicester and Chelsea to secure a top-four finish.
