The research report shows that the majority of Gen Z in Vietnam have access to and regularly use artificial intelligence. 85% of Gen Z in Vietnam describe themselves as familiar with AI technology, while 20% say they understand how AI works, and the remaining 65% understand basic AI concepts.
This deep familiarity and trust makes them see AI not just as a tool but as an indispensable companion on their trips and in every stage of their journey.
Gen Z sees AI as part of everyday life
For Gen Z, artificial intelligence is no longer just a high-tech concept, but has become a familiar part of everyday life. A survey by Booking.com shows that the younger generation interacts with AI tools multiple times a day, for both work and entertainment.
Specifically, 75% of Gen Z users in Vietnam use AI-integrated search engines every day, which is also the way they use AI the most. 66% use AI-generated tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude every day. 59% regularly rely on AI-powered suggestions on streaming platforms such as Netflix or Spotify.
Notably, up to 70% of users interact daily with smart home devices such as security cameras, temperature controllers or facial recognition systems.
Familiarity with AI extends to everyday habits: 48% of Gen Z use it to track their health, 43% use it to get smart shopping recommendations, and 37% use it to help with restaurant choices.
As AI becomes an integral part of life, up to 44% of Gen Z leverages this technology to find inspiration for trips and support booking travel services.
AI becomes a companion on every trip
According to a survey by Booking.com, up to 99% of Gen Z in Vietnam use AI to prepare for their trip before their trip, from receiving personalized recommendations according to their own needs to learning about new destinations and choosing the ideal time to go.
During their trip, 99% of Gen Z also trust using AI at their destination, mainly to interpret local languages, signs, menus or conversations, and to find more interesting information about attractions.
After the trip, 96% of Vietnamese Gen Z continued to use AI, mainly to receive personalized recommendations for the next trip or write experience reviews.
Not only now, but in the future, 99% of Vietnamese Gen Z expect AI to help them plan new trips, from researching destinations, suggesting local experiences, to recommending suitable restaurants.
Gen Z - a generation ready to embrace new trends but with consideration
Despite being the main drivers of AI development, in Vietnam, Gen Z still approaches this technology with a certain caution and clear expectations about how technology providers operate. Fairness, accountability and transparency are top priorities. Almost all (93%) of Vietnamese Gen Z have some common concerns about AI.
Gen Z’s most common concerns span a variety of areas. They worry about AI taking over human jobs, including their own. Personal privacy and data mining by companies are also concerns. Gen Z is also wary of AI creating bias or unfairness in experiences, and worries that travelers with lower budgets will be de-prioritized. Many also feel uneasy about letting AI make decisions completely independently.
These results show that Gen Z is both open to advanced technology and smart in its application. For the tourism industry in particular, this opens up a clear direction for the future, which requires developing AI in a practical and accessible way, while ensuring convenience, ease and comprehensiveness, the factors that Vietnamese Gen Z appreciate the most.
From the above practical surveys, Mr. Branavan Aruljothi, Country Director of Booking.com in Vietnam said: “AI is changing travel habits, from planning to experiencing activities. Gen Z is showing us how this technology can naturally blend into everyday life. From personalized search results to smarter recommendations, Booking.com is using AI to make planning and discovery easier, more comprehensive and seamless."
“With Gen Z travelers setting new expectations, we will continue to leverage AI, not only to make choices simpler, but also to inspire and empower people to take meaningful trips,” said Branavan Aruljothi.
