According to the guidance document on teaching 2 sessions/day in the 2025-2026 school year of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the content of teaching 2 sessions/day has 2 cases:
One is that the educational activities in the second session are carried out from the budget (i.e. parents do not have to pay tuition), including: Reviewing for the 10th grade entrance exam, reviewing for the high school graduation exam no more than 6 periods/week; carried out from the beginning of the school year;
Consolidate so that students can complete their learning content; review and tutor students whose learning results for the last semester of the previous semester are not satisfactory (no more than 2 periods/subject/week; for first-level classes, this will be implemented from the second semester of the school year; for remaining grades, this will be implemented from the beginning of the school year); Nurture excellent students by subject (no more than 2 periods/subject/week; implemented from the beginning of the school year until students take the exam).
Second, educational activities in session 2 are carried out from socialized sources, including:
Career guidance activities, experiences, STEM/STEAM, life skills, digital skills, AI, foreign languages, sports, culture, arts and career counseling...
Activities and learning content aim to organize and implement projects and plans of the city and the education sector.
The document of the department also clearly states: the organization of session 1, session 2, the number of periods for session 1 and the number of periods for session 2 in a day and a week are flexibly arranged according to the prescribed duration, suitable and convenient for the implementation conditions of the school, students and parents.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires that when teaching 2 sessions/day, schools need to organize diverse, rich, suitable, and effective teaching methods (group study, self-study, clubs; combination in/out of class; direct, online or coordinated; coordination between school teachers and experts from social organizations, universities, businesses)...
No regular classes scheduled on Saturdays
On the morning of September 10, speaking at a conference to contribute ideas to the secondary school education plan for the 2025-2026 school year, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized:
" The Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that no more than 7 periods are taught per day, which means that these 7 periods are used to implement the general education program. As for other subjects and educational activities, schools can balance them to teach, which means there can be more than 7 periods per day."
Also at the conference, Mr. Quoc directed schools: "Do not schedule regular classes on Saturdays. Saturdays should be arranged to nurture excellent students, tutor underachieving students, organize clubs, etc. with the active and voluntary participation of students."
