Patient LMD, 54 years old (Dau Giay commune, Dong Nai province), was admitted to the hospital on September 4 with a cough of bright red blood. The cough had lasted for about a year, and despite multiple treatments, there was no improvement.
The patient's chest CT scan revealed a foreign object in the right main bronchus, so the doctor ordered an endoscopy to remove it. After nearly an hour of continuous operation, the Endoscopy Department team performed a flexible bronchoscopy and successfully removed the piece of snail shell from the patient's bronchus. The patient had choked on the foreign object for a year without realizing it.
Chronic airway foreign bodies are a dangerous but easily overlooked cause, especially when symptoms are atypical. Prolonged cough, recurrent pneumonia, or hemoptysis require careful examination and endoscopy when necessary. This is a difficult case, if left untreated for a long time, it will seriously affect the patient's health.
After a successful endoscopy, the patient continues to receive care and monitoring at the hospital.
