Tourism industry 'accelerates'

After two months of merging the province, Thai Nguyen tourism industry recorded impressive growth with a large number of visitors and revenue exceeding the same period of many previous years. Mr. Nguyen Tung Lam, Head of Tourism Management Department (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism), said: This is a positive signal, clearly reflecting the potential and new attractiveness of Thai Nguyen tourism in the context of international integration.

After more than 20 years of investment, the scenic complex of Phoenix Cave and Mo Ga Stream (in Vo Nhai commune) has become an attractive eco -tourism destination.

Many opportunities for development

The merger of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces has opened up many opportunities for the tourism industry to develop. The space has expanded, tourism resources are more abundant, and many new tourism products have been created to attract tourists. As a result, in July and August, Thai Nguyen tourism industry welcomed nearly 1.5 million visitors, including more than 61 thousand international visitors. Total tourism revenue reached nearly 1,500 billion VND.

Thai Nguyen tourism industry is showing a strong breakthrough. In just the first two months after the new province came into operation, the number of visitors reached nearly 1/3 of the total number of tourists in 2024 of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan combined.

During the recent National Day holiday of September 2, in 4 days (August 30 to September 2), tourist areas and spots in the area welcomed more than 240,000 visitors, an increase of nearly 40,000 over the same period last year. Revenue is estimated at 156 billion VND, an increase of 28 billion VND compared to the 2024 Independence Day holiday.

The above figures show that Thai Nguyen tourism is making a clear breakthrough. Mr. Do Trong Hiep, Chairman of the Provincial Tourism Association, shared: The September 2nd holiday is the time when tourism businesses are most active. Accommodation facilities have an average room occupancy rate of about 50%, with many hotels in Phan Dinh Phung ward reaching 80 to 100%.

Currently, in Thai Nguyen province, there are 19 tourist areas and spots recognized by the Provincial People's Committee; nearly 60 amazing caves with wild and mysterious beauty; 137 large and small lakes with valuable landscape, environment and eco-tourism development. A number of eco-tourism, resort and MICE projects have been put into operation. Sports, adventure and cave exploration tourism have initially formed new products, creating more highlights to attract tourists.

Cave, stream and waterfall tourism is developing quite strongly in many localities in the province, attracting tourists who love adventurous activities.

The tourism infrastructure system in the province currently has 741 accommodation establishments, including 94 hotels, including 9 3-star hotels, 7 2-star hotels, 3 1-star hotels and 75 standard hotels. The province has 50 licensed travel agencies, including 39 domestic travel agencies and 11 international travel agencies. More than 4,700 restaurants and culinary services are operating, of which over 100 restaurants are capable of serving 1,000 diners at the same time.

Tourism businesses and establishments are creating stable jobs for about 4,000 people, including 283 tour guides, including 64 international guides, 163 domestic guides and 56 tour guides at the destination...

Promote and advertise

In the context of international integration, the opening of the border creates favorable conditions for citizens of other countries to visit and travel in Vietnam. In particular, from 2023, Vietnam officially exempts 45-day visas for citizens of 13 countries, including Korea, Japan, Russia, France, Germany, etc. This is a favorable opportunity to promote the development of the tourism industry in general and Thai Nguyen tourism in particular.

The province owns many world-class destinations, typically the Thai Hai Ethnic Ecological Stilt House Village Conservation Area, My Hao hamlet, Tan Cuong commune, which was honored by the World Tourism Organization as one of the “Best Tourist Villages in the World”. A notable highlight is that Thai Nguyen tourism services have gradually gone into depth, quality has been paid more attention, leading to a significant increase in the number of overnight guests and use of services. Ms. Trieu Kim Xuyen, Vice President of the Provincial Tourism Association, Head of the Bac Kan Tourism Association, said: Immediately after the merger, the northern destinations of the province have flourished. During the September 2nd holiday, Ba Be Lake Tourist Area welcomed more than 2,000 visitors.

Ms. Hoang Thi Nhung, communications manager of Suoi Coc Homestay (Dai Phuc commune), said: During the four holidays, the facility welcomed more than 1,300 visitors to visit and experience.

Of course, today's results are the result of a long process of continuous efforts from the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee. Directly, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism - as the standing agency of the Steering Committee - actively organized tourism promotion activities inside and outside the province; provided a list and information on unique destinations to integrate into the Map 3D/360 application in Ho Chi Minh City; proactively introduced Thai Nguyen in many provinces and cities across the country.
