Volleyball milestone

Today, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team officially took the field in the opening match of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship. This is a historic moment, the first time Vietnamese volleyball has participated in what is considered the biggest playground in the world of volleyball. Among the 32 participating teams, Vietnam is the only "rookie", a special position, both new and proud.

Previously, Vietnamese sports had been present in many world championships, even making their mark at the Women's World Cup, futsal, and even the prestigious Olympic gold medal. However, the fact that a team sport, which requires depth, endurance, and high synchronization, has reached the world level has a meaning beyond a mere achievement. Because compared to individual sports, team sports always face enormous challenges. There were times when participating in the World Cup or world championships in team sports was considered out of reach.

At this year's Women's Volleyball World Championship, in addition to the two default slots for the host country and the defending champion, 15 other slots are reserved for the top 3 teams from the 5 continents. The remaining 15 slots are based on the rankings of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). Thanks to its 4th place in Asia, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team received a slot from Thailand after the continental champion was chosen to host the event. Currently, Vietnam is ranked 22nd in the world, above 8 other teams participating in this year's tournament. This is an unprecedented high ranking for a Vietnamese team sport in the global ranking system.

Participating in the world championship and with the current position of Vietnamese women's volleyball, it can be said that this is a highlight of the country's sports. It is the sweet fruit of a journey of more than 30 years of Vietnamese volleyball. Since the 90s of the last century, volleyball has been a pioneer sport in socialization, organizing international events, hosting many important tournaments in Asia. Volleyball is also the sport that organized the earliest national championship after the country's reunification, and has now built a tournament for U23. As for women's volleyball, every year we have 2 prestigious international tournaments, maintained for nearly 2 decades, something that no other sport has done. Volleyball is also the sport with the most "overseas" athletes, with memorable marks: Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa once won the Asian championship with the Thai club; Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was signed to compete in the Turkish National Championship, where the team ranked 6th in the world.

The rapid progress of Vietnamese women's volleyball does not come from luck but from the perseverance and determination of those who work in volleyball to pursue their passion. That was proven by the historic victory over Thailand in the final of the recent Southeast Asian Championship, before that were two consecutive victories over Korea, one of the powerhouses of Asian volleyball. It is these victories that are the basis for fans to believe in coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team in their historic debut, expecting them to have brave and beautiful performances against teams currently in the world's top 10 such as Poland and Germany.

This participation is the beginning of a new journey. Regardless of the result, the presence of Vietnamese women's volleyball at the biggest tournament on the planet is a living proof of the spirit of perseverance, daring to dream and daring to conquer. For the women's volleyball team, the journey to conquer new heights has just begun and promises to continue writing many memorable chapters for the country's sports.
