Garmin has just announced the fēnix 8 MicroLED smartwatch model in Vietnam with a suggested retail price of 54.89 million VND. This is one of the rare smartwatches with a price of over 50 million VND officially distributed, targeting high-end customers in the Vietnamese market.

The fēnix 8 MicroLED is the latest addition to the fēnix line, Garmin's flagship GPS sports watch line, and is the first to use MicroLED display technology. The device's display features more than 400,000 micro-LED dots, with a maximum brightness of 4,500 nits, allowing for clear visibility even in direct sunlight. The color gamut is expanded by about 15%, and the contrast is 6 times higher than conventional technology.
In addition to display capabilities, MicroLED is also said to be more durable, reduce image retention, and extend screen life.
Integrating MicroLED on smartwatches is considered a bold experiment, because this technology has previously appeared mainly on TVs or large-sized specialized screens.
inReach technology is not yet available in Vietnam.
In addition to the fēnix 8 MicroLED, Garmin also introduced the fēnix 8 Pro Series (AMOLED and MicroLED) with the new inReach technology. This is the first time a GPS multisport smartwatch allows satellite and LTE connectivity for texting, calling, location sharing or sending SOS signals even without a phone.

In satellite-only environments, the device can transmit messages and location coordinates; with LTE, it adds calling, voice messaging, LiveTrack sharing, and real-time weather updates. In an emergency, users can activate SOS to connect to Garmin Response, a 24/7 global support center. This unit has more than 20 years of experience and has coordinated more than 17,000 rescues, with multilingual support.
Design and features focused on movement
The fēnix 8 MicroLED retains the familiar design style of the fēnix line, with a titanium bezel, leak-proof metal buttons and water resistance for diving. The product is 51mm in size, with an integrated LED flashlight to support in low light conditions.
In terms of features, the device includes Garmin's full suite of sports and health tracking apps. Users can take an electrocardiogram (ECG), track their workout performance with metrics like Endurance Score and Hill Score, get daily workout suggestions, and access built-in TopoActive maps. It also supports smart routing, sleep coaching, Garmin Pay contactless payments, and basic connectivity features.
The battery is claimed to last up to 10 days for the 51mm version, depending on usage.

Garmin said the fēnix 8 MicroLED will be officially available in Vietnam from October 13, through the company's website and Garmin brand stores. The product is distributed in limited quantities.
Meanwhile, the fēnix 8 Pro Series (including AMOLED and MicroLED versions, supporting inReach satellite communication technology) currently has no plans to bring it to the Vietnamese market.
High-end smartwatch trends
The smart wearable device market in Vietnam has seen an expansion in the high-end segment in recent years. While popular models are priced from a few million to about 20 million VND, devices over 50 million VND like the fēnix 8 MicroLED are quite rare. They are often aimed at technology enthusiasts, professional sports or collectors looking for something different.
With Garmin launching the fēnix 8 MicroLED at nearly VND55 million, the domestic smartwatch market continues to witness the emergence of luxury products, competing directly with brands that are prominent in the luxury fashion segment such as Apple Watch Hermès or hybrid watches from Switzerland.
